The Conservative Super PACs are on the verge of a divisive implosion!http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1012/82613.html?hp=t1
In-fighting between PACs shows they vying for who will be correct: those who hedging their bets and are bailing on Romney to give money to house races vs. those who are focusing on Romney. There is movement here for one PAC to become the predominant conservative Super PAC. This may be the beginning of a serious case of backfire of Citizens United. Be careful what you wish for GOP!
Playing to donors, GOP groups spill some secrets
The reason is clear: Conservative super PACs and outside groups face the very real possibility theyll have spent $1 billion and failed to elect Mitt Romney or deliver a GOP Senate.
That means professional political types could have a lot of explaining to do, especially to the rich donors who financed the record spending spree and are wondering if their investment was squandered.
So the operatives running the superPACs and nonprofits are scrambling to prove they made a difference in any way they can. Theyre positioning themselves to claim credit for successes, dodge blame for failures and prove that theyre not one-trick ponies that can only do narrowly targeted advertising.
Karl Roves Crossroads outfit, which mostly focused on television ads boosting Romney and GOP Senate candidates, has been branching out into House races and get-out-the-vote activity, working with Ralph Reeds newly robust evangelical mobilization group Faith and Freedom Coalition.
There is much more delicious GOP implosion in slow-motion at the link.

Zerban will be a fine Congressman. And a part of the new Democratic takeover of the House after removing stupid 'baggers in 2012.

Not from us, but from the Rethuglicans who thought up the stupid law.

(31,706 posts)First...a disclaimer...let's see how the 3 days work through over the weekend...hopefully President Obama's numbers will rebound. Nonetheless...one big factor going on that is not being discussed when we look at the President's numbers and those in other races...it's that massive amount of SuperPac spending that is flooding airwaves and, in some cases, doing groundwork for various endangered rushpublican candidates. For some like the Kochs, the focus has always been on the state level but there a bunch of big money Willard donors who surely have to be feeling like they're not getting the bang for their buck they were hoping for. But then many live in the same bubble that Willard and the great unhinged do...convinced they are winning and maybe letting them slip into a bit of blissful complacency wouldn't be such a bad thing.
The real implosion starts once the votes are counted...how bad things are and who won and who lost. The bottom line is sooner rather than later there will be a big blame game and Willard will be the fall guy but others will go with him...our fun will be to see who gets thrown under the bus and who tries to ride above to pick up the pieces. Right now there are elections to win...the best way to make the implosion happen.
Cheers...

(7,160 posts)If Jeb wants a shot at 2016 which politically would be his best chance they all know the POTUS is very popular that's why Karl Rove allowed Mitt the loser to be nominated in my opinion Jeb is more charismatic and way more likable than Mitten's and after 2 failed GOP runs will be refreshing to the R voters. Karl Rove never intended to help Mitt Romney he's all in for a 2016 run for Jeb Bush

(114,904 posts)Pro-Romney group to spend $12M on swing-state ads
9:26AM EDT October 19. 2012 - If you live in a swing state such as Colorado or Virginia, get ready for more presidential campaign ads with a pro-Mitt Romney message.
Restore Our Future, the super PAC supporting the GOP nominee, is spending $12 million on ads that will reportedly blanket the airwaves in nine states, with all but one being a battleground. The New York Times reports the buy is the group's "most aggressive and expensive push yet" in the campaign's ad wars.
The ads will run in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia and Wisconsin -- all swing states -- plus Michigan, a firm that tracks political advertising told The Times.

(23,018 posts)Of course, they aren't going to bail. But Koch and Rove are hedging their bets.
The Super PACs are competing for donors and Koch/Rove don't want to go down with the Romney ship. ROF is hoping Koch/Rove are wrong so they can yank the donors from them. They are dividing their efforts, not coordinating.

(4,835 posts)People aren't watching the ads. I haven't seen a single political advertisement on TV this year. I don't watch the networks very often because I have Netflix and Hulu+.
Even before I got rid of dish I recorded programs (even football games; with two channels I could pause one game and watch the other and fast forward through all commercials).
I realize not everyone is like me, but I just don't think we have the 'viewing habits' that they are marketing to. Who doesn't have some form of DVR?
I think TV ads are a waste of money. If folks aren't sitting in front of Fox News, listening to hate radio, or reading theblaze.com; the republicans aren't reaching them.
The president has the right idea; be a guest on 'the View', the Daily Show, Letterman etc. People watch the shows; they skip the commercials.

(4,835 posts)I also think that those most likely to vote for democrats are less likely to have a DVR.
And I don't know about you, but the conservatives aren't going to make a commercial that would inspire me to vote for a single republican. That's another factor that works against the big money republican PACs. They're marketing to a 'decided' audience.

(154,021 posts)I also get crap from everybody, since I am registered independent.
I am also very careful, and have succeeded, to keep my political views from those I interview. So yes, I will inteview a far right candidate today, and a hard left (we have them) candidate tomorrow.
Like most reporters, the most important question is... "yeah, but."

(4,835 posts)I don't even like all of the commercials that the candidates that I like produce.
In 2000 and 2002; Mike Ross was running against an old school republican (I forget his name). I swear one or the other had a commercial on during every program.
I have no idea who is even advertising right now. It's not like you actually get any facts from commercials.
