Not only for the end of an era; but, for the great hopes that we, in the Pro-Space Movement, had for the Space Shuttle. It was supposed to make access to space routine, and bring down the cost of access to space. It was also supposed to be the first in a series of fully reusable space planes, and begin the development of space.

Gerard K. (Gerry) O'Neill did his work on space manufacturing based on the published cost-estimates for the Space Transport System.

So many false dawns, so many dreams deferred!
