People didn't want to pay taxes for the fire department, so they didn't get help when their house caught on fire.

There are many reasons why this payment has to be mandatory and not optional. Paying only when your house catches on fire will never be enough to support the costs of keeping a fire department.

Private toll road owners learned a painful lesson when people started working from home during the pandemic.

most churches are more inclined to invest that money, or support their minister, priest, guru or whatever, in a lavish lifestyle that would make many captains of industry blush. They just don't have the money to help the poor.

He was talking about his economic "plan" and said that everywhere he looks in America, he sees opportunity.

It gave me chills to hear it. He was talking about undoing America! And none of his ignoramus followers understood it.

Few years back I worked with a few younger Republicans. They ranted about Socialism and all the government handouts and how we needed to cut SS and Medicare. Finally I got tired of hearing it and asked the guy who had 4 kids in public school how much he paid for their education and did he claim them as dependents and did he take advantage of the mortgage interest deduction. I then informed him I was tired of paying for his kids education and their food and housing!
I got a blank stare.
I went on to explain that education in our area is over 20 grand per year per student. That was 80 grand in handouts he was getting every year in just education handouts.
This created several days of good debate. Their point was that my kids also used the socialist education system. I explained that because I own several properties I had long ago paid for my children's education. Then I offered a deal. We can end SS. Pay me all I
and my employers paid in with a reasonable interest rate. Just buy and annuity for me. End Medicare and make it pay as you go after paying me all I have paid in. Then end all school taxes for people who do not have children in the system and people who have paid for their own children's education. End the dependent deduction and the mortgage interest deduction.
Apparently they did not really believe in paying their own way.
This was a very successful lesson and I never heard about government handouts again.
Americans hate socialism. Except for their socialism. That Socialism they love.

15. If you think about it, we might as well live in the middle of nowhere with chickens and

a clean river. We had an extended honeymoon for one year doing just that. Every day was an adventure, but we were young then. Zero government today would really challenge the stupid fat lazy assholes like the ones attacking the Capitol -- ironically demanding no government.
