Back on the 17th of December my son tested positive. He lives in an accessory domicile unit in our split house. His girlfriend lives there with him. Both were tested positive with pcr test.
On The following Tuesday I started having a little nausea and bloating and loss of appetite. I went for a rapid test because that is all my healthcare conglomerate allowed. They only offer pcr tests to students and teachers. I tested negative. By Thursday and Friday I could not eat anything at all and was having some pretty nasty stomach problems coming out the back end. 20- 30 times a day. I went for another rapid test at urgent care On Sunday which was again negative. Got throat culture and was provided amoxicillin. I took two days of that until culture turned negative. Then stopped taking. Throat started feeling better but Still looking very gnarly.
Then for another three days I started with stuffiness. However my pulse ox was always good. But I had a consistent temp of 99-100 every single day and night. Fever chills were the strangest thing I have ever felt. It felt like a cool, stinging burn across my chest and upper arms. And bottom of my feet felt like they were in fire.
I hade insomnia. Got about two hours of sleep a night, which you can imagine was making me start to lose it.
Woke up Thursday with temp but by supper time I started to want something to eat. I had a grilled cheese. Went down nicely and no bouts of the the big D.
I feel like I have turned a corner.
This disease was as much a mindfuck as it was a total and complete wipeout. Every day for 11 days you wake up hoping it would be the day you start to turn a corner but nope. It was exhausting physically and mentally.
I think I am getting better now. So, figured I would tell you my experience.
My husband tested positive with a pcr as did my son and girlfriend. Those rapid tests cannot be trusted.
So there you have it. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer.

I had type A influenza last year and I felt crappy for like a day or day and a half. I would hate to feel like that 4 two weeks.

(51,976 posts)Yes, those rapid tests have a huge false negative rate. There's no way you didn't get the virus if everyone in your house was infected, especially your husband.
So glad you're able to eat again. But please keep monitoring your oxygen level until you are no longer sympomatic.
Wishing you and your family a healthy and happy 2021!

(4,035 posts)and then get hit by a bus again. So many have it in surges, where they feel awful, but then better. They think they are on the mend, and then they start feeling weak and awful again. It is very important to rest, and not go back to a regular schedule too soo.
My heart weeps at all the Americans who will be permanently disabled because they are being forced to go back to demanding jobs too soon. 30% of college athletes who've had covid - mild cases, most didn't get very sick - have damage to their hearts caused by it. The US is f%cked not only because repukes are letting it spread wildly, but also because the work culture they have carefully crafted will leave so many more permanently disabled than in countries with less barbaric labor laws.
