5. I don't think that's exactly it...

I think many repukes already know they're voting for a turd, they don't like being reminded of it nightly. They're going to pay as little attention to the election as they can between now and November and vote for Romney because they've already made up their mind that he's the lesser of two evils.

17. Also a possiblity.

I think they've been rolling their eyes since the convention whenever Romney or Ryan puts their foot in their mouth and Fox attempts to spin it as a positive. They're just tired of listening to that.

they had to watch something other than Fox. They weren't covering it. . . .

7. My only way to see MSNBC is thru iPad.

Like the Rachel app.

Do any of us non-cable watchers even count in the ratings?
I bet MSNBC has big numbers of "viewers" like me.

After all, the FoxNews crowd can't get that channel on their AOL eMail.

20. I'm sure the ratings are still measured as they've been

for a very long time now, by Nielsen or perhaps one or two other companies. I was for one week a Nielsen family. Not the kind with the equipment to monitor my TV and automatically not what I was watching, but the kind with a diary to keep. It was a sufficient nuisance to write down what I was watching, that I actually reduced my TV watching during that week.

I'm also one without a TV, and I do all of my television watching via the internet, so there is absolutely no way I'm being counted either. I do watch Rachel every evening, and it does not seem as though The ED Show or the Last Word are posted in a way that makes if convenient to watch them. I also can't seem to figure out how to watch the Chris Whatsisname show on Saturday and Sunday.

Also, isn't Fox a broadcast channel, rather than just cable?

What percentage of people who have a TV still only get broadcast?

It was interesting to me how my personal sense of honesty didn't allow me to simply lie about what I was watching, but instead altered my viewing habits.

27. FOX is not a broadcast channel

FOX News is a cable channel only and not on broadcast only cable systems

And sadly, you guys only count in Internet hits. Not in actual TV Household ratings

36. FOX entertainment channel is a broadcast channel, but FAUX News is a cable channel. However,

a majority of cable systems carry FOX News and CNN on their basic line ups. I know at least the 2 cable systems I have had (Time Warner and Comcast) carry MSNBC on a higher tier of programming, so you have to upgrade your programming to get MSNBC. You would think with Comcast now owning NBC, they would make MSNBC available on their basic programming.

Oh, and it's Chris Matthews.

I am paying a good bit extra for it, mainly for the morning line up. Will probably downgrade to a cheaper package after the election.

they feel more and more that they have been defeated and they are withdrawing from the news, radio, current events....

they will not show up to vote but will stay home, eat cheese from a can, and watch a reality tv show instead.

19. He may be speaking of demographics

such as the much coveted 25-54 age range. O'Reilly still kills overall, but Ed has more than cut that lead in half, and is almost even in the 25-54. Rachel is almost tied with Hannity overall, but has overtaken him in the 25-54 - that is HUGE. O'Donnell seems to be doing the best against giant flake Greta.

I think the most promising thing about this all is that FOX is the only place for conservatives to go, so of course they garner the most viewership, all compressed into one area. MSNBC competes with all the others (CNN, CNBC, HLN) and has now virtually tied FOX. Good job, guys and gal. Even with some cable companies restricting access to anything not FOX in certain regions, this is excellent news.

Also, MSNBC (cable) is not available in many cities and towns. Many hotels in La Vegas do not carry MSNBC. But I guess its the cable package because a lot of Monterey,Cali hotels do not carry MSNBC either. FAKE fucking news is everywhere spewing total hatred and bullshit. FAKE news incites violence.

43. Monday, 9/17

The convention likely introduced new viewers to MSNBC as they have picked up around 500,000 per show since. I check with tvnewser mediabistro hoping to see Current listed. I gather it will never be factored in owing to their only presenting news programming from 7 pm - midnight (ET). With tvnewser rathings, you always have to go to another link to get the overall ratings as the first shown are Demo areas.

There must have been a lot of old folks that didn't make it through the long, hot summer in their climate change denial. The Fox viewership isn't getting any younger.

If they were inclined to watch Fox, the sheer ineptitude and piss-poor psuedo reporting have started to turn them off. Even if they prefer RW fiction to fact-checked news, they'd like a better performance, and the sheer amount of meanness is getting real old.

Bad business model.

Fox is doomed inside of ten years as their loss in viewership to the Grim Reaper will only accelerate.
