Can Romney Reinvent Himself Sufficiently?

What are the odds that Romney will wear out his welcome with the American people? People will tolerate a gaffe or two. They won't blame Romney for having some senile old fart talk to a chair for 11 minutes on the final night of the convention. They will maintain support for their guy for jumping the gun over the blow up in the ME. They might not let this first round of dross from the leaked videos get them down.

But eventually, even avid supporters get tired of having to defend the guy they are hoping to hire to defend THEM.

I am thinking that Mitt isn't going to suddenly become campaign savvy over night. I also think Mitt is running this campaign more than anyone is giving him credit for. There is no professional campaign staffer on earth who would have thought that press release last night was a good idea. I think that was all Romney. He doesn't like to be challenged, he doesn't like to look bad and he couldn't stomach all of US talking shit about him without coming forward to say something. Did anybody else see that video where the reporter calls him out on saying that his campaign 'wasn't run by lobbyists'?? Romney was PISSED at the end when he spoke with the reporter one on one. His expression and attitude shouted "How dare you question me!" I think he can't help but try to defend himself when he thinks he is attacked. And it is in those moments when he looks the least Presidential.

So, he is taking today off, I heard. What are the chances that he is going to come back from his day of rest smelling like a rose? There is still MORE stuff to come out from that video. One DUer said that he had seen it and that Romney talks about admiring Chinese workers and how Americans should be more like that. If that is the case, he really IS toast.

I was scared to death a couple of weeks ago. But after the past eight days, I am feeling more confident. And more determined. Because ONE effect of those videos that isn't being talked about MUCH is that while Romney's base might not mind the way he talks about half of this country, OBAMA'S base has gone apeshit crazy over what he said. I will now not rest until that man is hanging out with Sarah Palin and they are asking themselves "What the fuck happened?? Everybody told me I was a shoe in!"

he's not a privileged, smarmy dick with a Rushmore-sized belief in his own entitlement to everything in the world for six years and it hasn't worked yet. 49 days is not enough. And he still has three debates in which to embarrass himself even further.

Honestly I do not have much faith in the American people. I have been watching from up here in Canada (CNN, etc), and it seems like this Mitt Romney guy has a shit ton of supporters. Seems like he is going to win

I have been saying this for a few weeks now. How they didn't discover that a CEO bishop would not listen to campaign advice sooner mystifies me. When he is face to face with Obama in the debates, I think we may see him behaving even less presidential.

He said what they feel and they are not burdened by logic, memory or etiquette. They would rather see him do that, especially if they sense he will lose anyway
