@BarackObama just tweeted:
Huge news: our grassroots campaign outraised the Romney campaign in Augustthe first time we've done so since April. The campaign and combined committees raised over $114 million in August to the Romney campaign's $111 million. Adding in the folks who gave in August, a total of 3,142,457 people have donated to this campaign since April 2011. If you pitched in $5 or $10, it helped. 97.77% of donations in August were $250 or less, for an average of $58.31.
EDIT to add more 'cause they're still tweetin':
317,954 people who gave to the campaign in August were supporting the Obama organization for the very first time. No celebrating, because they're going to have an even bigger September. But now we know we can match them, doing this our way. Here's what you can do to close the gap for another month: RT this link, right now. http://OFA.BO/6XqCki

(4,982 posts)I'm looking at the Obama campaign which is all-inclusive, diverse, made up of millions of small donors -- compared to GOP/Rmoney campaign which is exclusive, mostly old white misogynist heterosexual men and their women. Money-wise they're mostly big, rich donors. Not that 'regular' people don't donate to Rmoney, but the bulk of their money is from Adelson, Rove, Kochs and corprats.
'WE' is the epitome of America and all that it is and stands for.
Rmoney is the epitome of "get off my lawn!" - a bunch of old sexist, homophobic coots who think America is and should be just for THEM. It just isn't. Not anymore. Those days are gone.
Pffft.

(2,424 posts)One guy can give 10 million.
Or a hundred thousand folks can give ten bucks.
It doesn't seem fair........until you look at the crowds.
An empty Ford Field = a few folks giving a lot of money.
Problem for the GOP is that a few folks can't fill their venues. You can't buy full stadiums, but you can pay a couple hundred young folks to take a bus ride and hold up placards when they are told. It makes the GOP look younger, but like their one Senator said, they are running out of angry white men. The GOP convention was full of photos of old GOP figureheads surrounded by young "image mercenaries". It was all staged.
It is all a big show for them with no ooomph behind it. When you are a party of habitual lies, even their carefully crafted image has obvious, blatant holes in it. They are not populist. They are not main stream. They do not reflect the vision of typical Americans.
2008 all over again. I'm calling it now.

(9,314 posts)I am proud to say I donated $10.12 and I have no money. But I am expecting a full economic recovery starting around January 20, 2013....

Our campaign is fueled by the millions of you, not 10 million dollar checks. Help us keep the momentum going: https://contribute.barackobama.com/donation/index.html

(31,233 posts)the convention. Numbers like this will open the floodgates. People like being "a part" of the winning team. This is a much needed shot in the arm for many.

(4,982 posts)...so I believe what you're saying is probably true. People want to be a part of something BIG and this is huge number of people and dollars.

(31,233 posts)And the fact that first time donors continues to increase creates something of a bandwagon where more and more people feel they have a stake. I'm loving it.
