According to Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD), federal student loans are the start of a slippery slope that could eventually lead to a Holocaust. While speaking at Marylands Allegany College on Wednesday, Bartlett invoked this horrid comparison while arguing that government loans are unconstitutional:
Not that its not a good idea to give students loans, it certainly is a good idea to give them loans. But if you can ignore the Constitution to do something good today, tomorrow you will be ignoring the Constitution to do something bad. You could. There are more people in our, in America today of German ancestry than any other [inaudible]. The Holocaust that occurred in Germany how in the heck could that happen? And when you start down the wrong road, it can be a very slippery slope.

I'm really beginning to think there's cases of hysteria, if not outright insanity, in the GOP.

By "liberal" they mean anything that fails to actively promote their RW views.

Maybe the RW problem is the music they listen to.

(22,845 posts)From Wednesday's Gaithersburg Gazette:
"Two weeks after U.S. Rep Todd Akin rocked the country with his legitimate rape comment, U.S. Rep. Roscoe G. Bartlett made a similar statement on rapes connection to pregnancy, which his office says has been taken out of context.
In YouTube videos, Bartlett told a town hall in Frederick on Aug. 30 that few pregnancies actually result from rape.
If you really there are very few pregnancies as a result of rape, fortunately, and incest, compared to the usual abortion, he said in the video. What is the percentage of abortions from rape? It is tiny. It is a tiny, tiny percentage.
Lisa Wright, spokeswoman for the Republican representative, said Tuesday that his comments at the meeting were clearly about the proportion of abortions connected to rape, and that his was an accurate statement."

(16,254 posts)It's as though the party leaders had a contest for the most bizarre statements and this is one of the entries...along with Akin and many others.
Bizarre is the only word that I can come up with to describe their ridiculous statements.
Just tell us it's all a bad dream and will go away soon...maybe in Norris' 1000 days of darkness?

(938 posts)...is it just me or did he just ethnically insult every single person of German ancestry in the entire United States?! Word to the wise, Bartlett--"there are more people in America today of German ancestry than any other"--you might not want to PISS THEM ALL THE FUCK OFF!
