Black CNN Camerawoman Had Peanuts Thrown at Her at GOP Convention

Assailant Shouted “This Is How We Feed Animals”

Someone attending the Republican National Convention allegedly threw peanuts a black camerawoman for CNN and said, "This is how we feed animals," according to Talking Points Memo. The nut thrower was then escorted from the convention.

TPM reports that a CNN spokesperson confirmed the incident but wouldn't elaborate. Here's CNN's statement: "CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment."

The incident was first reported by Take Action News reporter David Schuster, who tweeted:

"GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying "This is how we feed animals." @TakeActionNews #TAN"

... but the individual who said it should be identified and vilified. I'm sure that most of the delegates and attendees there would recoil from the act and denounce it - at least publicly - but the fact that this asshole felt comfortable saying it in that environment speaks volumes about the collective mindset. He thought it was funny, and that those around him would also think it was funny. And, chances are, a good number of them did.
