It was completely unnecessary, imo.
He had made a reference to "the Mexicans" next door to me. That's all. His wife overheard him and I guess made him call me back and apologize. So he did. I told him I hadn't even noticed. I might have called them that myself. They are Mexicans, what's the big deal?
I kind of appreciate her sensitivity, on the other hand it might have been unfair to him. Oh well, no big deal, we're all just trying to our best, which is not always the case.

(39,665 posts)Referring to people from Mexico who live next door as "those Mexicans next door" isn't a slur unless it's meant to be.
If he apologized, he knows the difference, too.

(27,461 posts)is she playing the race card on her husband? I seriously doubt it. Much more likely she actually was concerned he might have accidentally offended me. She doesn't know me, if I was someone else I might have been offended, who knows.

(18,628 posts)I say the public because I believe under the surface racism is boiling at an all time high, but making racist statments in public has become taboo. Calling someone a racist is now the "n-word" for white people. They reel like they've been mortally wounded and demand you take it back.
I understand it was satire that brought race issues to the dinner table, but reruns of "All In The Family" would sound extremely crass and offensive in this day and age.
