So what exactly would we get for agreeing to cuts on vital social programs

such as social security and medicare?

It better be big, REAL big. Like, the top tax rate for the wealthy goes to 80% and socialized medicine/national health care run by the government is introduced and implemented. And a 50% reduction in defense spending.

It better not be for some piddly ante stuff, but the cynic in me says it would be.

And if you don't know by now, the deficit is more of a threat to our way of life than no medical care and starvation.

MAYBE closing a few tax loopholes for the wealthy? Probably nothing substantive however.

Just make up a gun to hold to the head of the country, and you can call monetary rape a 'reasonable compromise'.
