Say what you want about the show, Sorkin, and the stupid romance plots, the show takes a good amount of time just kicking Tea Party ass.
Last night was no different--- Sorkin has perfectly shown how the old school Republican is no more and how the extreme right wing, the Tea Party has destroyed the Republican party.

(53,410 posts)which is what's so great about the show. No need to make anything up. That's the genius of using real events as part of the plot instead of making 'news' up, which he could have done since it's basically a fictional story.

(5,643 posts)It really has some important things to say. The plots and the interactions between the characters are so clumsy, though. I hope it improves in the second season.

(53,410 posts)I did find them clumsy at first, but this is the first season and I've found that the first season is always the most stilted and non-meshing. If the show makes it through the first season and people like it the second season always improves noticeably. The characters become more complex and richer and they start feeling more like real people to the viewers.
If it's a good story to start off, then I'm willing to give it time to become more robust and settled.
The subplots are silly but the actors are just getting the feel of it. Rare is the show that belts it out of the park in the first show (Game of Thrones being a recent notable exception) and Aaron Sorkin is good so this show will just get better.

(53,410 posts)Because so many really good and promising stories I've like have been canceled. Especially if they're brainy and nuanced and give the viewer the credit and respect to know to fill in the details. Like simply using the word 'Katrina' and assuming you know what the back story is without treating you to an educational lecture to bring you up to date.
I love being treated like an intelligent person by writers of tv shows.

(666 posts)This is by far the best program on TV, I can only hope that it starts up again before the elections

(342 posts)I have to agree with your opinion of Newsroom. I must record it and watch it next day because the characters talk so fast that I can't follow the conversations. Some of the sub-plots get a little too involved for my taste but just the very concept of a Republican being a respected news anchor and eviscerating the "Tea Party" with actual facts, figures, and critical analysis fulfills my fondest journalistic desire.
Yet, I think we could agree that few Republicans would watch more than a few minutes of the first show aired. That, coupled with some of our DU friends opining that they don't like the show, I don't see how the series could last much longer. I really think that the public could benefit from watching the series. It seems to substantiate some of the things we suspect and clarify others. We'll see.

Is it just me, doesn't Will's character seemed modeled after Keith Olbermann?
I haven't watched last night's episode yet. Saving it for later

(2,667 posts)It was as if half of the show was written for over-protected 13-year-old girls and it was getting worse from one episode to the next. I quit watching two or three weeks ago.
