self help kit for concern trolls

*don't refer to yourself as "we democrats" or some variation thereof, it automatically gives you away.

*discussion of democratic party actions and how they might hurt republican party feelings? dead giveaway.

*discussion of "what will people think" in response to democratic messaging? give away.

*use of the word "vitriol" - instantly discredits your arguments and it paints a glaring red R in the middle of your forehead.

*describing yourself as a "liberal democrat" - iffy, but i've never heard a fellow reality-based progressive refer to themselves specifically in this way.

in sum, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN and have a blessed day!

Or have you misunderstood that?

Because the word "Republican" can unfortunately mean one of 3 things.

Republican Party
Republican politicians
Republican voters

If one wants to defeat the first two, it's not a good idea to insult the third. Especially if one lives where I do.

Its called Mac Meda Destruction Company, born in La Jolla, CA. in about 1961, by word of mouth.
No membership, no organization, but hundreds would show up for our conventions and it is known worldwide.

Tom Wolfe wrote about it in his book The Pump House Gang.

It has its own location on Google Earth, phone # and web page, click on it below, tons of information and really funny stories and videos.

http://macmedadestruction.com/

We used to have huge conventions (parties) complete with a band on the beach right in front of Mitt Romney's 12 million dollar beach house.

When the cops showed up they would bring 10 to 20 cars, like something out of the Keystone Cops.

And then there's the name calling, bullying, and tag teaming. I rarely start threads, but one of the ones I did start immediately had a group coming at me: calling me "liar", using insinuations, ganging up & bullying. I real eye opener for me.

Sun Aug 12, 2012, 03:40 PM
Aug 2012

Liberal is not a dirty word, and conservative is not something to be admired, like Rush has been pounding into people's heads since the 80's.

Honest. Really.

It is not only OK, it is a good thing to be a liberal!

Geez, the anti- liberal propaganda that started in the Reagan years, and continues in full force through today, has been frighteningly effective.

I'm proud to be a liberal Democrat. I am a liberal Democrat. I am a liberal Democrat. I am a liberal Democrat. Liberal liberal liberal liberal liberal.

I feel the need to distinguish myself from members of the Third Way party, who deviously refer to themselves as Democrats, because I am horrified at being lumped into the same group as they are.

It is a shame that I feel the need to use the qualifier word liberal before the word Democrat, to make it clear that I actually believe in traditional Democratic Party ideology.

But, yep. I am a liberal Democrat. And I totally resent that you are apparently trying to label people who refer to themselves as liberal Democrats as concern trolls for some reason.

I am a liberal Democrat.

Just like these folks are liberal Democrats.

Liberalism in the United States is a broad political philosophy centered on the unalienable rights of the individual. The fundamental liberal ideals of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion for all belief systems, and the separation of church and state, right to due process and equality under the law are widely accepted as a common foundation across the spectrum of liberal thought. The main focus of modern liberalism in the United States includes issues such as voting rights for all adult citizens, equal rights, protection of the environment, and the provision by the government of social services, such as: equal education opportunities, access to health care, transportation infrastructure, basic food for the hungry and basic shelter for the homeless. Some American liberals, who call themselves classical liberals, neoliberals, or libertarians, support fundamental liberal ideals but disagree with modern liberal thought, holding that economic freedom is more important than equality of opportunity, and that promoting the general welfare of society exceeds the legitimate role of government.[1]

Without a qualifier, the term "liberalism" since the 1930s in the United States usually refers to "modern liberalism", a political philosophy exemplified by Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal and, later, Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. It is a form of social liberalism, whose accomplishments include the Works Progress Administration and the Social Security Act in 1935, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Community Reinvestment Act and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Other than the liberal Democrat thing, I agree with your OP.

I wear Liberal proudly as well. I am a liberal, why wouldn't I wear that badge of honor? I don't wear the title of Democrat anymore because I'm not one anymore. My party was stolen from me, by third wayers. I'm a Socialist. I carry that badge proudly. I belong to the same party as Bernie Sanders who is, IMO, one of the finest, most upstanding people in the Senate.

I remain at Democratic Underground because I still support the truly liberal Democrats and even hold my nose and vote for the less liberal ones as being the lesser evils. And I'm an activist so it just makes sense to be at the best liberal activist site on the net.

I just don't think that it is a good idea to ever semantically equate someone self identifying as a "liberal Democrat" with "concern troll" on this board.

OK, yeah, I suppose I'm overly sensitive to certain language because of how the right used language/labels/propaganda to instill an anti-liberal mindset into the consciousnesses of so many gullible, manipulable people in this country almost overnight.

Beginning with the Reagan era, the right has really pounded that whole "liberal is bad, conservative is good" message into the collective consciousness of the nation.

A very effective and simple way to help shift the country to the right very quickly.

Jim Morrison said it well ~ "Whoever controls the media, controls the mind".

Yeah, they have been very effective at slandering the word Liberal. Many, if not most of us here have reclaimed it and wear it proudly. When a troll comes to visit, they think they are being oh, so, clever using the moniker "liberal democrat" but from them, they are just using it as a super secret slur. It's very obvious when a troll is using it, because the word, "but" comes after it.

And you know what they say about the truth of anything that comes before a "but". Ain't none.

I'm a worrier. Maybe it's just that tendency which makes me consider that there may still be many possible risks in this election. Right now I'm worried that persons with concerns, whether ultimately legitimate or not, may be automatically attacked for asking questions or voicing their concerns. Sometimes presenting a bizarre theory can be a way of trying to draw oneself back to reality, from the realm of irrational anxieties.
