71-year-old taken to the ground and handcuffed for asking Paul Ryan a question

As Congressman Paul Ryan cracked a joke about him, Tom Nielsen found himself face down on the floor being handcuffed by police. The 71-year-old retired plumber from Kenosha was thrown to the ground, placed in handcuffs, and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after objecting to Ryan's plans to gut Social Security and Medicare during his congressman's only public appearance scheduled during the August recess -- a $15 Rotary Club luncheon in West Allis on Tuesday.

Nielsen repeatedly told police that he wasn't fighting them and that he didn't want to make any trouble. He also told them several times that he had a broken shoulder. Police officers ignored his comments as they wrestled him to the ground despite his howls of pain.

Nielsen's comment to Ryan at the luncheon, his arrest, and Ryan's joke are all captured on video available here.

[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Romney/Ryan are just the figureheads of a new battle in the very same war that Big Business has been waging against the general population since before the Gilded Age. The "Business Plot" against FDR was one of the most spectacular battles and might even have included a planned assassination attempt, but there has been one skirmish after another for a very long time.

Big Business sees all natural resources, including people themselves, as commodities to be exploited and used to their own benefit. Polluted water, filthy air, stripped/contaminated soil, tainted/unhealthy "food" -- these are just "opportunities" for them to force people to buy the half-remedies that their companies offer for a price.

They have zero interest in protecting the environment, or people's health and dignity. They want ultimate power. They are the would-be owners of that "boot stamping on a human face--for ever." (Orwell, 1984).

We ignore this war they wage against us at the dire peril of all Humanity and the Planet herself.

Are you not equally frustrated with the way the party has managed these difficulties? What progress has there been really? 1. Not sure which party you are talking about, but I'm frustrated and angered by the way the Grand Obstructionist Party has said NO to anything for the past three years, and disgusted that they actually stated they were doing this to get rid of the President.
Essentially they were doing this to all of us... a waste to us all, while the country is reeling from the broken state the Smirking Bush** left the country.

2. What progress has there been?
Well, you can look it up if you want a complete list, but a few notable ones come to mind:

We have ended one unfunded unnecessary war that cost our country over $800 BILLION dollars and untold deaths and injuries on both sides and hopefully on our way to ending the war in Afghanistan, too.

President Obama has ended the rape of our students by the banks by limiting the amount the banks can collect in a year.

The US auto industry was saved, despite the obstructionist party's candidate saying it should go bankrupt.

President Obama has put in place the Affordable Care Act that has already phased in children who were previously uncovered, and just this month, saw to it that health insurers provided free mammograms, women's cancer screenings, and birth control.

We have seen 25 months of positive job growth despite the party of obstructionists not passing one single jobs bill.

Osama bin Laden is now dead. While he was planning this, the obstructionists were instead busy declaring the President to be a non-citizen Muslim Nazi.

You can go see what else the President has been up to at http://www.whitehouse.gov ...if you want to see what the "other side" has done, that's filed under ........nothing.

3. No I do not agree with you that "more people were doing better before the recent conflict".
I am presuming that by "the conflict" you mean the second great Depression or as everyone likes to call it "the largest Recession since the Great Depression". The country was already in a tailspin in 2007. The banks were failing right and left.
People were losing their jobs and their houses. People were going into bankruptcy because they couldn't afford medical care.

It took us 8 years of the Bush** years and two unfunded wars, unfunded tax cuts for the wealthy, an unfunded Medicare prescription plan and deregulation of environmental programs to get us into "the conflict", and it will take more than one Presidential term to get us out of it. And oh, the obstructionism has got to stop. We all need to help each other where we can.

Having the Rmoney gang write themselves big tax cuts and repeal the ACA is NOT what we need.
If you think it is, then you need to go join another forum.

How can a person base a comment on freedom-loving voters and support the shackling of voters freedoms at the same time? Are all politicians condemned? Are all citizens condemned? Is no one aware of the source of redemption? How is it that we agree with the promise of hope and change for the better but are frustrated at every turn? What do you think is the root cause of this difficulty? There is so much confusion. Stories are twisted, misinterpreted and replies and reactions are so chaotic. The world is already paying and has been for a long time. I wish I'd seen your earlier posts to see you describe the stakes.

To the newbie (likely troll) I was addressing, dystopia is defined by the RW's terror of the looming spectre of misunderstood "socialism." For that reason, I was referring to recent improvements in the overall jobs picture, saving/improving our social safety nets, full and equal rights for ALL, making the rich pay their fair share, and everything else you'll find here.

No, things have not been moving fast enough in the direction we'd like. I just can't imagine why... *cough* reTHUGs. But we are moving in the right direction.

Yes, President Obama has accomplished a great deal that benefits all of us, and he deserves another term to continue the terrific job he's been doing.

If the speaker had been a Democrat, and the yeller had been a far right wacko, you would be applauding the fact that he was removed from the room.

To me, it doesn't matter.

(Notice in the viideo that the part right before handcuffed on the ground is cut out, so we don't see what caused that action. We do see initially that he is resisting being removed from the room. He is acting against the law...he has no right to be on private property, when he's told to leave. It's that simple.)

The Authoritarian defenders only see one side of the equation; only Democrats, Liberals, and Progressives need to be thrown to the ground and handcuffed for speaking out and being 'disorderly'.

Teabaggers are just voicing their valid opinions at political town halls...using racist slurs, while carrying weapons and posters of their opponents with bullet holes in them.

No need to use force against them, that would be unconstitutional.

You'll never see the authoritarian creepazoids come out of their neurotic shells to demand that teabaggers or anyone else on their side get treated the same way - they suddenly switch to singing romantic praise for the First Amendment when a teabagger disrupts at a Democratic event.

But the instant a Democrat gets thrown down, beaten and jailed for doing this to a subhuman fuck like Paul Ryan, they're praising the cops for their "professionalism", wagging our fingers at us, telling us we need to be more polite even though the right-wingers shit on us every chance they've got, but we'd better not dare make noise.

Fuck this hypocritical authoritarian bullshit.

As much as I like the First Amendment, if there are no rights to have your health because it interferes with the screwing of people by the wealthy, this country isn't worth keeping together.

IMHO, I feel that Romney's choice of Ryan will energize the democratic base but we still have the problem of voter suppression. DOJ & ACLU needs to stop this illegal attack of voters.

Of course people of his age are scared to death that they are going to make drastic changes to Social Security and Medicare. The younger set are too indoctrinated with the mindset that people who only have SS and Medicare/ Medicaid are moochers. They don't realize that people have worked all of their lives putting money into these programs and are ENTITLED TO THEM. Paul Ryan is the Devil incarnate, no doubt. He requires his staff to read Ayn Rand .. go figure. Hopefully Romney's choice will backfire on him .. I hope seniors, who are very reliable voters, will come out in droves. We just have to make sure they're not purged from the voting rolls.

Do you think they could have handled that situation any differently? Couldn't have Ryan said something to quell the man's anger? Ryan needs to go back to McDonalds and flip burgers.

As a democracy, the only thing that separates us from totalitarians is our openness. Politicians must be available to constituents and interested parties. Let's face it, today a politician's influence may go well beyond their district or even state.

So when we throttle public access (and respectful challenge) to politicians...we are no longer living in a democracy. We are living in a totalitarian regime that operates under the guise of populism.
