You may know him. He goes by the handle Omaha Steve.
It has been over a year and a half since I pinched a nerve in my neck between c-4 & c-5 on the job. Three specialists recommend not doing the surgery unless it gets worse. I can't do the heavy lifting required of my current job as a result.
Thanks to my union contract they can't just lay me off. I have been accommodated to a lower paying position. I'll keep my benefits, seniority, retirement, etc. I will be a civilian Information Services Tech starting Monday the 6th of August.

That's what being an union member is...
I just started a new venture myself - with my dad. So far we're breaking even, but we've got to get that margin!

(20,597 posts)The worst part of injuries that prevent a person from keeping their job is the devastation that comes with "losing your place in the world." Kudos to your union! You're still in the game.

(17,266 posts)I wish that your example could inform others of the value unions have to society and individuals. Is it fair to assume that without the union, you'd be in a heap of grief?
Meanwhile, thanks for putting up the good fight on all fronts.
