If there is a time to stand strong it's now. A massive majority of Americans support DACA and the Republicans are constantly playing games. We have wanted the Democrats to fight fire with fire and this is it. It was a difficult choice for them I'm sure but the climate is not changing in the halls of congress. I hate that it had to be done but it's the Republicans that have forced our hand.

I think the Democrats have picked the right issue and the right time to hold strong. If we keep giving an inch they will keep taking miles demolishing everything along the way.

We seem to be the only party that compromises because the Republicans stopped doing it years ago. Hence the no spine comments that I'm sick and tired of seeing from our side as well as the Republicans side. We can't make Republicans behave so we are going to have to start making some tough choices from time to time.

I think the Democratic party will only go this way in extreme circumstances - not that they haven't been extreme for a very long time but this time they have held out. And because they have finally decided to stand together on this issue their actions are speaking loudly because they have waited so long. They aren't abusing the rules. They are being very selective which should bode well for us. Key word being "should" but they must try some new things.

The Republicans have the congress, the supreme court and the presidency. We are going to have to fight differently not because of that but because of what they have become - hard, uncompromising, heartless people. We can't keep doing things the way we have done them in the past. We can try our damnedest to keep the integrity that the higher office demands but it's been ruptured badly on one side and that is not stopping anytime soon.

There is no way to win. But giving Rs a taste of their own medicine and watching them squirm is interesting.

They should not be using the Dreamers, they should just do what is right. Trying to make them do what is right with their own tactics could work.

Today’s Republicans want the United States to be a Russian satellite state, part of an unregulated, winner-take-all, white-power empire that stretches from North America, crosses Northern Europe, and into “Christian” Russia. Sound insane? It is, most definitely. It’s also true, as *everyone* will soon know.

There is no high road in this fight. Democracy’s on the chopping block. It’s imperative to push back with everything available, avoid any “purity” contests, and to fucking stick together.

The Republicans have been running the government on CRs and have been delaying funding of CHIP for months. Meanwhile they are pushing forward on DACA deportation with the SC and throwing mixed signals there. With the end date of March I’m not sure Democrats could delay without effectively losing.

By the way, it’s not just about the filibuster — it’s about coming up with a consensus agreement. This is somewhat like not being able to decide where to go to dinner so nobody eats. It’s not complicated unless you literally wait until the last minute, or change your mind constantly. Since Republican leadership is in charge of the agenda, and Trump seems to have changed his mind a few times, it’s not too surprising that some might lay the blame there.

A compromised was reached and then trump blew it up. next up, the republicans couldn't even get enough of their own to pass the their bill. The Dems are not filibustering.

Dem tried to get a bill to the floor to pay thre Military and turtle refused to allow a vote on it. Trump campaigned on shutting down the government, though it was a great idea. He has a FUCKING WHITE SUPREMIST negotiating, while he is scarfing down Big Macs. His budget director said the government shut down is fun, FFS

We wouldn't have any other choice -- we WOULD be seen as holding the government hostage.

Instead, at least so far, they couldn't get 5 of their own to agree to the bill they authored. Were 10 other Democrats besides the five that did already supposed to vote for a bad bill when the GOP itself was divided? Are we jellyfish? If it'd been a good bill with far-RW holdouts only, yeah, we probably would have gotten together that 15. But that's not what this was.

We tried to immediately add the language from the 2013 shutdown so it didn't affect the military, and McConnell shot it down.

The fact we still don't have a full budget and have to do continuing funding resolutions is bad enough. They focused so hard on their tax bill that they neglected to figure out a way to pay the bills for the government.

Until they get their caucus together, though, it's insanity to accuse *us* of obstruction. Yeah, it might be scary what actually does get them together, and if a good bill comes through that just libertarians like Rand Paul who hate government entirely vote against, we will probably take it and make it happen.

But listen to the part of Tammy Duckworth's floor speech after her zingers. Most of the proposals are Republican-authored and the Republicans themselves still can't agree. We're the ones Ryan has stongarmed by vigorously using the Hastert Rule. Not them. We're the ones trying to keep our troops from feeling anxiety, and the GOP and Trump are instead trying to weaponize support for already beleaguered troops who just might have to deal with a war this buffoon creates.

Tell us we're being the obstructionist party when they get their own side together.
