(102,913 posts)--every time I see roadkill. Maybe there is a general animal "heaven" for wildlife. If so, I have them covered.
That said, I have the feeling that I would get the middle finger a lot more than I'd get the "sign of the cross" from a lot of today's "Xian" figures--perhaps including priests. LOL

(22,114 posts)I have made a priest scowl at me, twice.
I was walking home from a store in the neighborhood, carrying a couple of heavy bags. I was halfway up a 3 block long, steep hill. It was winter, dark, and I did not have my glasses on because they fog up in the cold.
A man wearing jeans and a warm winter coat offered to carry the bags to the top of the hill for me. I declined because I was not giving my purchases over to a stranger. He made a few friendly comments about the weather. I said something like, "I don't know how the hell..." Don't recall the full sentence but do remember saying "how the hell." The guy winced and scowled at the word "hell" as if I'd contaminated him.
Then I realized that he was the priest of the Episcopal church in the neighborhood. I was not a member, but had worked on some community projects with them. Did not recognize him at first because he was not wearing his glasses, either.
Another time, I was talking casually with him about covid and my precautions because I've always been very susceptible to viruses of any kind. I joked that maybe I have too many Neanderthal genes. Again, the sour scowl. I thought, "What the hell?" (but did not say it that time). AFAIK, Episcopalians are not anti science or anti evolution. Later I learned that he is a former Evangelical who switched churches.

(114,639 posts)reluctance to give up your bags to a stranger. Some time ago here, there was a rash of petty thefts. People offering to help carry bags and then running off with them. Plus one does not want strangers knowing where one lives.
