recovering_democrat's JournalComment @ food and help for those who need financial help simply for survival
I went to a well known grocery store this morning and found at the cash register, the cashier asking that we purchase (approx $50) of holiday food items those who are poor. The store is making the money they will use for their profit, and they will take a charitable contribution for the poor person. All poor people do not have nice homes and kitchen appliances either, so they can't bake the turkey or other items to prepare in that package. They apparently ignore that part of the subject. They also fail to mention they are themselves using the products as a contribution to the food places to give out free foods to others who are also poor. They will benefit in their tax return accordingly. Who doesn't benefit mostly? the poor people who don't have kitchens, ovens and tools and are eating otherwise. Understand the circumstances of the poor who are homeless, along with other limitations.
Also, find your local charitable food banks who understand the needs of this population and don't charge people to help them. They make sure they provide the type of food and tools that the recipients can use. If you not sure, find one of those places and get their list of things the people need. PS try to think to include a non-electric can opener which can help those given cans but cant open them.
I ask other friends who know this system to add any comments about the best type of gifts and best locations in your community. And quit increasing the contributions to the costly grocery stores while the victims have trouble using these products anyway. Join me in your comments
Interesting voting today
copying my message about today's voting in Sarasota Florida. Apparently the news media are only interested in strange and unusual things happening in the voting setting. This was my reality:
Facebook
Fran Clark is feeling thankful.
Shared with Your friends
OK friends. FYI: I voted today in Sarasota County Florida. In prior years, I have usually completed mail-in ballot in their very professional system. This year, because I was in process of moving, I had to do local ballot.
Since I haven't done a walk-in for voting here in a very long time, I am sharing this opinion.
1. If you are legal voting age and residence, you are hopefully voting in your method of choice. It is not only our right, it is a genuine privilege of this country. Don't ignore it.
2. At this site, highly professional behavior was all I saw both inside and outside of the voting address (one of the local schools). Meaning professional: (1) very professional for the individuals processing the voting process within the voting location. careful appreciation for their professional duties not their personal feelings.
3. Outside the school location, a tent on one side for the Republican representatives and another tent on the other side for the Democrat representatives. Equally personal and professional behavior among each of the persons and signs at their sites.
4.Our rights, our choices. I hope all of you have the same experience with your voting experience if you vote locally . Our ancestors had a wonderful plan with a proud US Constitution and how "we the people" manage it. Join me, regardless of your personal choices.
Political comments on various TV News stations
I am staying temporarily with a good friend during storm situations in this area. Although this is a good friend, we avoid discussing "politics" because we disagree on most everything. My problem is that person ONLY watches FOX news. I have not been able to see any news television except this friend's "FOX channel ONLY set on television subjects.
I am horrified by the lack of any representation of any actions or political discussions among any individuals, friends, politicians, candidates, and anyone else except "REPUBLICAN absolute information provided by these representatives, friends and associates, and absolutely NO comments or opinions, or FACTS by any other party, or persons of any opinions other than Republican opinions, candidates, running for office, individuals not stating any form of political comments, just how awful everything is that the horrible lack of care, attention, funding, etf., etc. any subject mentioning a single word of anything done by any Democrat or existing persons involved in the current problems with storm results here in US.
Can someone just give me a "brief' rundown of what (if anything) The Biden presidency is doing anything for these conditions, is the Republican candidate for President and any other offices expressing any opinions or information about the help for citizens of the US/ According to my Fox viewing, ONLY illegal immigrants has been getting funding for anything by the US government at this time, and out of money for any assistance for any FEMA, states. anything else. Viewing only citizens who are doing these tasks becuase they are helping the American Citizens are getting"NO" help from our government.
Thanks for a few contributions of information of anything our US government is doing in this situation and if not, why not?
Moved to Columbia South Carolina - Voting ??
I just moved from Florida to Columbia SC. I know little of the local politics in this city, county or state. Any DU members who can give me some ideas and advise on relevant political elections I may be able to vote in this area.
Specifically only a family member lives here too and works for the Sheriff's Department. Any specific recommendations from this particular area and information will also be appreciated as it relates to any political issue relevant. Thank you
Apologize about inappropriate political post
A sincere apology for what appeared to break the DU rules by me in wording my reply about third party options.
I did not intend to encourage anyone and especially any Democrats by that post. My response was only intended to consider voting citizens who are not Democrats now. I will be careful in the future
Florida voting. Experience in hurricane area
Florida voting FYI. I usually do mail in ballot. and never had any problems. In the midst of hurricane impact on this community, I filled out, whoops out of stamps. As of today, I decided go to take my sealed ballot envelope and put it in box in closest voting site near my home. Here are a few comments what I learned: 1. place chosen for site very accessible, well control traffic on this main road. (Still lots of damaged areas, lights in entire city. Volunteer help from other places help with traffic control as needed all over the city including this busy road. Easy access. 2. Good parking area site in business area, had no problem get park space close to election site, staff outside help with questions/directions, open door for entry. Just inside front large secure unit with opening in which you insert the envelope for secure placement by yourself and 2 staff to answer any questions people have. Done. Safe. Secure. Highly professional election workers. 3. From my home to and from voting site different routes and combination of business and residential areas. This community all the way to and from in this trip is badly damaged. Still collecting damaged trees, shrubbery, fencing, home furnishings destroyed in homes all around, same as my own neighborhood, truck after truck, day after day as families must repair and replace homes, roofs, damage of various types. On and on riding the whole route to and from this trip today and many others. Friends, don't forget to vote. Don't forget to respect your fellow citizens too. We are Americans. I was encouraged today.
Waiting for the call!
I am here in the line of the hurricane, waiting to get an offer to Martha's Vineyard!
Perdue's behavior
Reading press coverage of Sen. Perdue's hiding in the bathroom instead of listening to women trying to express concerns to him.
I was GA voter and member here for years before I moved to Florida. Hope you all have better luck with this year's election to give some balance in the Senate to his cowardly self.
Bradenton Confederate Monument update
checked this today(I live in Venice). Also posted the original statement here as a reply in TheFerett weekly wonderful remarks:
Trump has not commented ...
...yet
.i saw press coverage of Bradenton cops handling pro and con protestor to remove confederate statue at courthouse. Spending most of my life in Georgia and every informed on most Waaah shit, I was surprised I was unaware of this. Although seceded with the rest of the South, the soldiers pretty much kept control of Florida need and crops helping to feed the fighting army. Also tried to help shut down northern blockade of ports.
I wanted to learn what the monument memorialized. A statue put )up by USC in 1924 to commemorate the confederate soldiers. Also has names of Lee and Jackson.
I am posting this in Florida group but just thought it was fun enough to share with your fabulous writings!

just plain silly.
Tampa pro sports team actions
For those not, aware, the three Tampa pro sports teams, baseball, football and hockey contributed the money to take down confederate statues at Hillsborough County courthouse.
Request to remove was approved but had to be funded privately not by county. Our pro sports teams do some AWESOME things. Thank you!
