pablo_marmol's JournalNot *ONE* reference to "gun control" at the Chris Hayes town hall event.
I wonder why. The people of Chicago understand that poverty and lack of opportunity are the drivers of gun violence in their city, and understand that NO gun restriction -- statewide or national -- holds any promise as a remedy. Which is exactly what honest criminologists have been saying for decades. Get at the root cause rather than adopt lazy knee-jerk "fixes". I'm guessing that Democrats will double-down in '18 and beyond......and the consequences will be the same as they've always been.
Federal judge blocks new California gun control law requiring disposal of large-capacity magazines
Haven't been paying attention to 2A issues for a while -- this got in under the radar:

Oh...wait........
"Hi Im Eric Hung, and I know I look like the stereotypical gun owner.
Im a biomedical engineer (go Blue Devils) and an entrepreneur who co-founded Educator.com, a math & science video tutorial site for high school and college students.
I guess I just gravitate towards educating people about stuff I love.
And I really love my guns because they are just fun. I feel not enough people say that reason. Self-defense and hunting are all great, but I love guns because they are fun to shoot, fun to take apart, fun to compete with, and fun to upgrade. They satisfy my engineering impulse and I love the peaceful Zen of shooting.
In my spare time when Im not Pew-Pew-ing, I play video games, travel, eat fried things, and spend time with my beautiful wife and two cats Pepper & Patches (Trigger and Colt were vetoed)."

Never mind.
REC: 'The Deep State' by Mike Lofgren (reformed Republican)
I'm about 1/3 of the way through this excellent book, and will most certainly move next to Mr. Lofgren's first work.
I'll abstain from any further comments, as they could be easily and dishonestly mischaracterized.
Classical liberal 'Yankee Marshall' speaks truth to venom/lies.
One of the ugliest accusations hurled at supporters of the RKBA is that we "lack compassion" for the victims of gun violence by virtue of the fact that we refuse to sign off on worthless, emotion-driven "solutions" following gun violence tragedies.
I happen to enjoy a lot of what The Yankee Marshall releases.......and he's particularly on-point in this video:
Jon Ossoff gets it. I think.
So like all Democrats, I developed an early interest in the runoff election in Georgias 6th district and as a liberal supporter of the RKBA I was especially interested in Ossoffs stand relating to gun violence. Why? Two reasons. Georgia, is, well
..Georgia, and gun ownership correlates directly with income. (I think that nearly everyone is aware by now that Georgias 6th district is wealthier than most.) As a result, I was pleased to see how he handled two interview questions relating to gun control:
While the interviewer is clearly unimpressed with Mr. Ossoffs response, I believe that it was truly artful. His opening sentence represents a nod to the Democratic position good move. From there he pivots to support for gun rights, and he threads the needle especially well with his sensible safety comment --- avoiding the toxic common sense gun control line while still leaning toward a variant of sense.
The next link takes you to his interview with Rachel Maddow. Again, he sends code to gun owners by stating that he is disinterested in divisive national issues --- a common refrain throughout his campaign:

Now here is where I get nervous, given that the race is too close to call. W/regard to campus carry he states his objection in the typical language that gun control favors, despite the fact that he could have stayed true to form and taken a softer approach. The chosen words he uses here will send up big red flags to gun owners:
As we prepare young people in Georgia for the high-tech economy, they should be able to sit in class without worrying whether the student next to them has a Glock on their hip, he said. Handel said through a spokeswoman that the measure is in keeping with the personal protections granted in the Second Amendment.

If Ossoff wins, I think its safe to say that his relatively moderate stance on the RKBA contributed directly to the win. If he loses, I think its honest to say that his comments on campus carry MIGHT HAVE made the difference. Lets hope for great Democratic Party turnout tomorrow and a WIN in Georgias 6th!!!
Edited to amend for a silly oversight: Of course, the mere fact that Ossoff has a 'D' after his name is a serious liability anywhere, but especially in Georgia's 6th.........given that gun owners have every reason to believe that he'll vote party on "gun control" issues -- despite whatever his says during his campaign. So I think it's honest to say that a narrow loss could be attributed to Democratic Party positions on the RKBA.

Concealed carry permit holder shows great restraint, until he can't.
Comment if you wish.
Crosspost: 2 killed in stabbing on MAX train.
The blue state of Oregon has trusted it's citizens with the right of concealed carry much longer than the "gun-crazy" states of Texas and Arizona. Yet when two unarmed good Samaritans are killed by stabbing trying to protect innocent women, they are described as "having done the best they could". Well sure -- they did the best the could given that they were out-matched. But the situation likely would have turned out better if even one of them had been a poised concealed-carry permit holder (which most are) with a sidearm.
Of course our resident restriction supporters will barf out the 'guns would have only made thing worse' "argument". Unarmed men defending two Muslim women: good. Armed men defending themselves and two Muslim women: bad. How illiberal and nauseating. Here's the thread:

Just got through fondling and caressing a new gun.
As every filthy gun-humping ammosexual knows, it is very bad luck not to. Cannot wait to cuddle with her tonight when I go to sleep!
I decided quite late in life that I could live no longer without a plinker, so I bought m'self a S&W M&P 15-22. Feels sweet -- and though the trigger pull is the only "defect" mentioned online, it feels satisfactory to me. Might lighten it up down the road.....we'll see. I'm not going to put an optic on it for the time being, as it will be a nice change of pace to go "old school" with the peep sights that are on it. Best of all - of course - is that by virtue of the fact that it's a rim-fire rifle it comes complete with all of the evil features currently "outlawed" in California.
It feels better than ever to be part of this community of RKBA supporting Dems nowadays. Big, sincere thanks for sharing your abundant knowledge with me y'all!
