My (non-confrontational) exchange with a Trumper

I was walking out of an AA meeting (where we don't discuss politics), chatting amiably with two guys. One guy made a joking reference to someone getting a brain transplant, and the Trumper chimes in with, "The vice president should get one of those."

"You mean J.D. Vance?" I responded.

"No. Kamala. Have you ever heard her speak?"

"Yeah. I like her," I said. "Have you ever heard J.D. Vance speak?"

"No," he replied. "He doesn't say much." (meaning Fox couldn't possibly be playing his insane clips)

"That's probably a really good plan," I said.

He just walked away.

Biden Drops Out

Source: Washington Post

President Biden is ending his presidential campaign, a momentous decision that upends the 2024 presidential race.

“I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the reminder of my term,” Biden said in a statement.

The Super Stunt Revisisted: How Pranksters Nearly Pulled Off Greatest Media Prank Ever

From Esquire Magazine:

Fifteen years ago, during the halftime show of the Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears, four improv comedians nearly pulled off what would have been the greatest media prank of all time.

In order to pull off the Super Stunt, as Hargrave named the operation, the team would need to smuggle 2,250 lights into a Level-One (that’s as high as it gets) national-security event—in advance—and stash them in the bowels of Dolphin Stadium until halftime of the big game. On the day of the Super Bowl, they would infiltrate the stadium posing as event staff, with fake IDs and uniforms, and hand off the sequenced lights to the fans. All of this would be done under the eyes of stadium security, multiple state and federal law-enforcement agencies, hundreds of uniformed police officers, and 3,000 additional security personnel.

How Four Comedians Nearly Pulled Off an Epic Super Bowl Prank

Fifteen years ago, during the halftime show of the Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears, four improv comedians nearly pulled off what would have been the greatest media prank of all time.

By Mike Hoban

Just after the New Year in 2007. John Hargrave, longtime friend and the publisher of ZUG.com, a comedy website specializing in pranks, called me up. I knew him, he knew me. John asked if I could meet to discuss a stunt designed to help him promote his book, Prank the Monkey.

“What’s the prank?” I asked. With Hargrave, you always knew there was the potential for something a little nuts.

“I can’t tell you over the phone,” he said, uncharacteristically serious. “But it’s big.”

Hargrave had history of pulling off imaginative stuff. He’d gone after Michael Jackson, Ashton Kutcher, and Bill Gates, even the United Nations and the U.S. Senate, with varying degrees of success. He was ambitious.

I agreed to meet him the next day at a coffee shop. When I arrived, he had his PowerBook open and his back to the wall.

I plopped into the booth.

“Okay. What’s the gig?”

After swearing me to secrecy, he leaned forward. “We’re going to pull off the biggest media prank in history,” he said in a whisper. “We’re going to hack the Super Bowl.”

Took an 81-Year Old to the polls this weekend. He hadn't voted in 37 YEARS!

Was volunteering in Philly, PA this past weekend and one of the things I did was drive some people to the polls through Drive Your Ballot https://www.driveyourballot.com/. The first guy I took was 81 and told me he hadn't voted since 1983 but thought it was important this time. "This guy has got to go," he told me regarding his change of heart.

He waited in line for an hour and 45 minutes before he got to drop off his ballot. Never complained, even though it was 45 degrees out and he didn't have a winter jacket on. After I drove him home, he couldn't find his "I Voted" sticker and he was bummed. I took my next ride to the polls and picked up a new sticker for him and dropped it off for him at the end of the day. That guy made my weekend.

If people are willing to sacrifice like he did, maybe we can win this thing if we keep showing up and not giving in to despair...

Apparently the photo Trump used was real, which sucks

I was so hoping that Shitler's gang used a doctored photo, but we're better off leading truth-based lives or we'll be as bad as the MAGAts. Apparently it was real, according to Snopes. He did enough evil/dumb shit (just by turning it into a paramilitary event instead of a celebration of our country), but we don't have to spread lies. That's Faux Nooze and right-wing radio's job....

On July 4, 2019, U.S. President Donald Trump posted a photograph supposedly showing a “great crowd of tremendous Patriots” on the National Mall before his speech at the “Salute to America” event: https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

This picture garnered thousands of retweets and more than a hundred thousand likes. It also sparked a number of comments from people accusing Trump of sharing a picture that had been digitally altered in order to make the crowd appear bigger.

But the picture that Trump shared of the crowd is real. Photographer Susan Walsh took a very similar image that is available via Getty Images with the caption: “US President Donald Trump speaks during the ‘Salute to America’ Fourth of July event at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, July 4, 2019.”
