In conservative weekly Gallup poll, Trump drops from 40 to 37 percent, disapproval from 57 to 59.

I imagine it's due to his response, or lack thereof, to the Parkland shooting.

Is your polling location a non-secular setting?

I moved to Florida about half a year ago and recently registered to vote. I decided to drive over to my new polling location since google maps told me it was only a couple miles away, just so I knew where it was. I arrived there, and it's in a church.

Now, I don't have any problem with religion. But I feel like there's a clear violation of the separation between church and state by having a polling location in a church, and I know that many polling locations are in churches.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Republicans are trying to tie local Democrats to Nancy Pelosi...and it's backfiring. Story inside.

This story is about the Democrats recent win in Florida's special election tonight.

-SNIP-

"Much of the race focused on other hot-button national issues, such as immigration. Buchanan tried to paint Good as a friend of sanctuary cities and as a “liberal lawyer” in the mold of U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

That the race became so nationalized is a sign that the underlying motivation for many voters right now is Trump, either trying to handicap his presidency or support it.

Good tied Buchanan to Trump in her ads early on, betting that the president’s popularity had waned in the district and more people would be motivated to vote against him than for him."

This isn't the first time Republicans have tried to do this, and it's continuing to not work in their favor. It appears trying to make Pelosi the new boogyman isn't proving as effective as they did with Obama and Hillary.

NYT: They Cant Wait to Vote: Energized Democrats Target Dominant G.O.P. in Statehouses

NEWTOWN, Pa. — For Republicans in the states, the political warning signs keep mounting: In Virginia, it was an electoral shellacking that nearly snapped their 20-year grip on the State House. In Wisconsin, it was a midwinter rout in a special election for the State Senate, fought in a conservative district.

And in Pennsylvania, it has been an exodus of state legislators from the Philadelphia area, where more than half a dozen Republicans have opted for retirement over a strenuous campaign in 2018.

“It looks like it’s going to be a war zone,” said State Representative Gene DiGirolamo, a moderate Republican, of his native Bucks County, a spacious suburb on the New Jersey border.

As national Republicans dig in to defend their majorities in Congress in the midterm elections, party leaders across the country have grown anxious about losses on a different front: state legislatures. Over the last decade, Republicans have dominated most state capitals, enacting deep tax cuts, imposing new regulations on labor unions and abortion providers, and drawing favorable congressional maps to reinforce their power in Washington.

Really inspiring piece, well worth a read.

What are Randy Bryce's chances in 2018?

He seems to be creating a lot of energy in a push to unseat Paul Ryan, and he seems like the perfect person to do it. Blue collar in a blue collar state, about the furthest thing from the establishment as possible.

I also know Ryan won his district by 27 points in 2014 and it's heavily gerrymandered. Does Randy Bryce have a shot here? I feel like he's going to do a lot better than whatever other Democrat would oppose Ryan.

The final question that needs to be answered: Did Kushner act on his own?

Or was he directed by Trump.

New York Times suspends Glenn Thrush

Yikes, this sounds bad.

“A star political reporter at the New York Times has been suspended over allegations of sexual misconduct involving younger, female journalists.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Times called the allegations against Glenn Thrush, one of the newspaper's top reporters covering the Trump administration, "very concerning and not in keeping with the standards and values of The New York Times."

"We intend to fully investigate and while we do, Glenn will be suspended," the spokesperson said. "We support his decision to enter a substance abuse program. In the meantime, we will not be commenting further."

Has anyone else seen 'The Brainwashing of my Dad"?

I watched it yesterday night. It's an hour and a half documentary about how ending the Fairness Doctrine led to the explosion of talk radio, Fox News and the conservative party that it is today. I don't want to spoil too much for those who haven't seen it, but it's seriously a must watch.

It follows one man in particular, and how as he started listening to Rush Limbaugh, he turned into a far right headcase and how the same exact thing has happened to millions of people.

A deeper meaning to this Virginia wave

They can eliminate all gerrymandering in the state and make sure it's an even playing field, as long as everything holds.
