Question of Control of the House starting this January, 2024.......

With George Santos gone and Kevin McCarthy leaving at the end of the year, what will the breakdown of Repubs and Dems be?

Thanks for any feedback

I apologize if this has already been addressed..

But why weren't President Obama and President Bush not at Rosalyn Carter's funeral yesterday?

I need transportation ideas....

Well, I don't have to worry about my catalytic converter anymore (I posted about my situation a couple of months ago for advice).........Because my car was hit by a pickup truck this past Friday and damaged pretty badly.

It's a 2007 Honda Accord with about 160,000 miles on it. The catalytic converter was stolen in 12/20 so I got an "aftermarket" one not realizing they expire. The smog test places won't even do the test because I showed them the paperwork and that's when I found out the aftermarket ones are only good for a certain amount of time.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the insurance company to do an estimate and I'm just going to take the check (because in addition to the catalytic converter problem, my car's having other issues).

I have no idea what the amount of money will be. I can't afford to get another car (although, it's possible that a friend of mine in TX may let me have hers and I'd make small, affordable pmts. to her).

I'm looking at other options for transportation. I"m a substitute teacher and the school where I work is only about four miles away.

What do you guys know about scooters, ebikes, etc.? Also, any other ideas anyone might have would be very much appreciated.

Thank you..........

Steve Schmidt supporting President Biden's Primary opponent....

Dean Phillips....

I was on twitter and saw this post by Nancy Sinatra so I wanted to check out what she was talking about:

"You have lost me Steve.

You broke my heart"

Steve Schmidt, a veteran anti-Trump Republican strategist, is teaming up with President Joe Biden's new Democratic challenger, Representative Dean Phillips, to take down the sitting president in the 2024 election.

Phillips launched his long-shot primary challenge against Biden on Friday after weeks of teasing a potential run, announcing that his "last-minute campaign" would be the only path for Democrats to defeat former President Donald Trump in the general election next year.
Schmidt, who worked on the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and John McCain before denouncing the GOP in 2018 as "fully the party of Trump," will be a close adviser to Phillips on his campaign. The announcement comes nearly four years after Schmidt helped found the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump group that raised nearly $100 million to get Biden elected in 2020. He left the PAC in 2021.

"I am joining Dean Phillips in this urgent moment of political crisis because we must try to make campaigns big and inspiring again," Schmidt wrote in a Friday blog post. "We must try and bring some nobility, decency and inspiration back into the business of politics. We must engage young people, and meet every American where they are. We must talk about the real issues that people in the country are facing. I'm going to do my utmost to help him do it."

Schmidt said while he "deeply admires" Biden and would support him should he win the 2024 Democratic nomination over Phillips, he believes Biden is on track to lose against Trump.

"I have made many predictions over the last seven years," Schmidt said. "Donald Trump credited me with being the very first person on American television to see that he could win, was winning and would win the Republican nomination."

"[The extremist movement] has a leader, and he is going to be the Republican nominee. I wish that were not true," he wrote. "If the election was tomorrow the simple truth is: President Biden would lose."
Schmidt said he was joining Phillips' campaign for two reasons—because Phillips will "talk about some very important things that have not been talked about in a long time" and because "Biden may be the only Democrat who could run for president who will lose to Donald Trump."

Schmidt said he was joining Phillips' campaign for two reasons—because Phillips will "talk about some very important things that have not been talked about in a long time" and because "Biden may be the only Democrat who could run for president who will lose to Donald Trump."

In a statement announcing his presidential bid, the Minnesota congressman said his campaign would be about the economy, safety, generational change and "listening to each other to get back to a less divisive political environment."

Phillips has made several media appearances leading up to his campaign launch, expressing his view that another, younger Democrat had to run against 80-year-old Biden, pointing to polls that consistently show that voters want more options.

Two-thirds of Democrat-leaning voters say that the party should not nominate Biden for a second term, with more than 80 percent of those voters saying they want "just someone besides Joe Biden," according to a CNN poll released last month.

The overwhelming majority of Americans do not want to see a rematch between President Biden and the convicted sex abuser and accused felon, who incited the end of the peaceful transition of power," Schmidt said. "There is an overwhelming majority of Americans and substantial number of Democrats who do not want President Biden to run again.""They deserve a choice, and they will have one," he said.
I literally just had to take a Xanax.

Rachel Maddow was great last night (Sunday, 10/22/23)!

She was in Los Angeles (Culver City) promoting her book, Prequel.

The event started at around 4:15 and ended at around 5:45 (she stayed an hour and one-half and was only scheduled for an hour).

She started by reading some excerpts from her book (the horrifiic anti-semitism of Henry Ford-OMG)! Then she sat with Jacob Soboroff for their conversation.

Rachel is simply AMAZING!

Movie "Sound of Freedom" - Tim Ballard

Oct. 10, 2023, 2:09 PM PDT
By Minyvonne Burke
Five women have sued Tim Ballard, whose life experiences rescuing children from sex traffickers inspired the movie “Sound of Freedom,” accusing him of sexual assault and battery.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in the Third Judicial District Court of Utah, comes a month after it was publicly revealed that Ballard had resigned from the nonprofit child rescue group he founded, Operation Underground Railroad, or O.U.R.

Ballard was under investigation by an outside firm hired by O.U.R. for allegedly coercing at least seven women to act like “wives” on overseas missions — an allegation he has denied.

Ballard, a former U.S. Homeland Security agent, dismissed the allegations last month against him as “false.” He denied the claims again in a statement Tuesday through his new anti-trafficking organization, The Spear Fund.

"The Spear Fund did not exist during the time of the alleged conduct and had nothing to do with it. Mr. Ballard vehemently denies the allegations brought by these unnamed women," the organization said. "He looks forward to vindicating his name in the courts where evidence, and not unsubstantiated accusations in the media, decides the outcome."

In the lawsuit filed Monday, a woman identified as “WW” said she reached out to Ballard on Instagram in April 2021 because she believed the man she was dating might have been involved in trafficking.

Ballard allegedly invited the woman to his office in Lehi, Utah, to discuss her concerns. During the conversation, Ballard allegedly asked the woman whether she would ever go undercover, to which she responded “No” but said she would consider it. The woman said she was then told to sign a non-disclosure agreement and instructed not to mention anything to anyone, the suit says.

The woman said Ballard told her about a tactic he used on missions called “Couples Ruse,” in which women would accompany him so the traffickers would not become suspicious that they were involved in a sting operation.

Ballard claimed to have strict rules for the “Couples Ruse,” including no kissing or touching in a sexual manner, but he allegedly used it as a way to groom the women, according to the lawsuit.

The suit describes one instance in which Ballard told WW that a person she credited with helping her heal from a past sexual assault could not be trusted. WW believed Ballard because she trusted him, the suit says.

The lawsuit describes another instance in which Ballard allegedly caressed the woman’s leg during a meeting at his office to prepare her for a mission.

“WW immediately tensed up but thought that Ballard was testing her and that she should just keep talking as if nothing were happening,” the lawsuit says. “WW kept talking as Ballard stroked her neck.”

The suit says Ballard got “frustrated,” asked WW why she was not responding to him and told her that he needed to know she was attracted to him.

Ballard is accused of groping WW repeatedly during a mission in Mexico. Each time, he insisted that they had to “remain in character” and act as if they were a “kinky couple” to make the sting seem believable, according to the suit. The woman also alleged that Ballard took her on missions at different massage parlors that left her in dangerous situations.
