Ex-NDOC chief says he was told to lie about inmate escape; gov's office says he wants $1M

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The former director of the state's prisons alleges he was instructed to falsify details of an inmate's escape, while the Nevada governor's office says he demanded $1 million over his forced resignation earlier this week or would go to the press.

Daniels gave an in-person statement to reporters Friday morning about response to the September escape of Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, who was convicted of murder and serving a life sentence in the 2007 bombing at the Luxor that killed one person.

Duarte-Herrera had escaped from the Southern Desert Correctional Center in Indian Springs. NDOC initially said they learned he was missing during a scheduled count on Tuesday, Sept. 27, but added later said he had been unaccounted for since Sept. 23

It feels fishy a story like this came out before the election.

Asian Americans see generational split on confronting racism

May 2, 2021

ATLANTA (AP) — The fatal shootings of eight people — six of them women of Asian descent — at Georgia massage businesses in March propelled Claire Xu into action.

Within days, she helped organize a rally condemning violence against Asian Americans that drew support from a broad group of activists, elected officials and community members. But her parents objected.

“‘We don’t want you to do this,’” Xu, 31, recalled their telling her afterward. ”‘You can write about stuff, but don’t get your face out there.’”

The shootings and other recent attacks on Asian Americans have exposed a generational divide in the community. Many young activists say their parents and other elders are saddened by the violence but question the value of protests or worry about their consequences. They’ve also found the older generations tend to identify more closely with their ethnic groups — Chinese or Vietnamese, for example — and appear reluctant to acknowledge racism.

"Viral Fascism": Travis View On Qanon As A Vehicle For Authoritarian Politics On A Mass Scale

On this episode of the It’s Going Down podcast, we speak with Travis View, one of the hosts of the QAnon Anonymous Podcast, one of the leading shows that critically picks apart and examines the Qanon conspiracy from a variety of angles, using humor to talk about the far-Right movement and its growing influence.

Throughout our discussion we touch on the threat posed by Qanon as a vehicle for the mass distribution of authoritarian and fascist politics, as View argues that the end goal of the movement is to create a Trumpian dictatorship made possible by massive amounts of violence. We also talk about the origins of Qanon, its future as a current with the Republican party, the fallout from the attempted coup in DC, and much more.

We end our discussion by talking about how some people have left the Qanon cult and how social movements might begin to ‘bring people home’ after watching family and friends be sucked into far-Right Facebook groups and social media platforms. While we end our conversation with no easy answers, we hope that the questions raised will spur continue discussions about moving forward in a rapidly changing world.

Revising God's Prophecy!

Evangelical prophets predicted that Trump would win in 2020, and after pushing back the date that this would come to pass all the way to the inauguration date, they're still doubling down. Watch televangelist Sid Roth double down on a failed prophecy. Watch Pastor Greg Locke freak out and Kat Kerr have a screaming meltdown. Hank Kunneman, Lance Wallnau, Mario Marillo, and Dutch Sheets hedge and make excuses as to why the prophecy failed on the Victory Channel's show Flashpoint with Gene Bailey.

Even the prophets of YouTube, Albert Milton and Chris Yoon, make some pretty spectacular failed prophecies and then shift the goalposts on the failed Trump prophecy. Everyone from Eric Metaxas to Curt Landry, and Kenneth Copeland was invested in the prophetic claim that Trump would win a second term in 2020, and all of them got it spectacularly wrong.

Closing of the Year by Wendy & Lisa

If I cannot bring you comfort
Then at least I bring you hope
For nothing is more precious
Than the time we have, and so

[Verse 1: Wendy & Lisa]
We all must learn from small misfortune
Count the blessings that are real
Let the bells ring out for Christmas
At the closing of the year
Let the bells ring out for Christmas
At the closing of the year

[Interlude: Choir]
Up on the knees of a sergeant major
Ride through the woods with the wind in your hair
Silver bells on a stolen reindeer
While we race to the castle over there

[Refrain: Wendy & Lisa]
If I cannot bring you comfort
Then at least I bring you hope

[Verse 2: Wendy & Lisa]
Now all the winter bells are ringing
Hear them echo through the snow
And the children's voices singing
On the street so far below
This is a time to be together
And the truth is somewhere here
Within our love of people
At the closing of the year
