MillsCoDems work to Get Out the Vote

It's been a busy Couple of weeks for Mills County Democrats. Last week, there was the Homecoming Parade in Glenwood with Past County Chair, Harold Swanson and current County Chair Judy Kirk driving the van supporting President Obama and Leonard Boswell in the Homecoming Parade.

This week we were trained by Iowa Democratic Party County leader, Annette McFarland. Pictured is Annette with GOTV volunteers Donna Crum and June McMahill.

The next meeting for Mills County Democrats to GOTV is Sunday October 14th at 2:00pm at the Pizza Hut.

For information on how to volunteer to phone bank or canvass in Mills County please email: millscodems@gmail.com

A Big Day for KegCreekDems

Last Sunday five KegCreekDems attended the 35th Annual Harkin Steak Fry. Although as Tom says he's never fried a steak because they are grilled, and the weather was sunny with a cool breeze-arend the speakers were fired up in defense of the American Middle Class.

Bruce Braley District 1

Dave Loebsack District 2

Leonard Boswell District 3

Christie Vilsack District 4

If elected Christie will be the first woman to be elected to Iowa at the Federal Level. Christie is greatly narrowing the gap in her race to beat incumbent Representative Steve King.

The KegCreek5 who attended the Fry:

Everyone in District 3 Really needs to get out and Support Congressman Boswell

Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa)

Reapportionment cost Iowa one of its five congressional seats, and redistricting made three of the four remaining seats competitive. The incumbent at greatest risk is veteran Democrat Leonard Boswell, who is an underdog against Republican fellow congressman Tom Latham, who holds a major cash advantage going into the fall election season. Both incumbents are well-known and well-liked. Boswell is hoping for a heavy Democratic turnout for President Obama to save this seat.

Democratic Table at the County Fair

It's July and the temperature is 105* in the shade. Every year at this time the Mills County Democrats man a table at the County Fair. This is a RED county by 3 to 1 - going back as far as I can remember. In spite of the futility of changing the outcome of the election and never to be outdone by Republicans, every July true Democrats from Mills County will man a table in the machine shed on the Fairgrounds. A core group of about 12 die-hard Dems take turns sitting at the table in the metal shed collecting guesses for the number of candies in the jar. During the July's inferno weather these hardy people hand out fliers for the candidates. Here's a picture of the booth - the posters fell off the metal wall because of the heat and had to be held up with magnets and hand stapled to the back board. Here's what it looked like. Not too bad for fly by night amateurs, do you think?

(I did some enhancing of the picture to make it more readable.)

Here is a picture of three of our group just doing our small bit to get out the vote for Obama and Boswell. I'm the one in the middle. Wish I had a pic of the whole bunch of KegCreekDems- maybe later.
