as Rivera came in from the bullpen. The familiar Enter Sandman, which might as well be a dirge for every hitter who's had to face Rivera at Yankee Stadium, played at the home of the New York Mets. It easily won the night over God Bless America in the seventh or a live performance of Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond just before Rivera's entrance.
Rivera got to the mound and tipped his cap as the crowd and both dugouts rose to applaud, other relievers came out onto the warning track to show their appreciation.
"Nothing is better than this," Rivera said. "I appreciate all of it. From the fans. From the peers."

Baseball will not be the same as he retires this year.
Over-the-Counter Medications That Are Safe for Dogs (And How Much to Give!)
While veterinary care, lots of love, and a healthy lifestyle is the absolute best way to keep your pet feeling great, all dogs will experience at least some form of injury or illness in their lifetime. Did you know that there are many over-the-counter human medications that can be safe and effective for dogs, when used correctly?
Benadryl, or another branded antihistamine, can be incredibly useful for treating allergies, bug bites, or other causes of itchy skin. Buffered aspirin is an excellent anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. Even Dramamine can be used for dogs with motion sickness, and Immodium can treat diarrhea. However, dosages for dogs are much different than for humans.
Use the chart below to determine if your OTC medication is dog (and cat) safe and how much should be administered. Always check with your veterinarian that understands your pets health and history before giving any medications. Additionally, be certain that youre using only the medication listed, not other ingredients. Many antihistamines, for example, include added decongestants that can be lethal for your dog. Check labels very carefully and when in doubt, dont use.

I notice how DU has regularly turned on the President as if this is RU
Nothing he does is right. Yet, the majority of us voted for him a second time.
How sad for us we expose ourselves to ridicule from our political enemies and give them fodder to join in with our pillorying of the President.
This isn't the DU I remember. Folks making anti-Democratic statements were tombstoned, now they're just another opinion.
How sad for us.
How sad for us the elders who have left. I understand now.
Have a nice holiday.
Everything Wrong With America In One Simple Image (INFOGRAPHIC)
When a country places more importance on sports than on academic achievement, its decline is inevitable. The American Decline is real and this is where it comes from.
This is why intelligence and knowledge is disparaged in the country that reached the Moon. These days, intellectuals are mocked as faggy and unmanly as if brute strength somehow contributed to the technical prowess, economic agility and innovation that made America a superpower.
This is why our politics are a disaster. When you raise a generation to believe that throwing a ball is more important than fulfilling their civic duty to make informed decisions, you allow charlatans to sell their lies to the public unchallenged.
This is where the Steubenville and countless other sports town rapes comes from, the vast majority of which are covered up and ignored. We literally worship at the altar of sports. The rape of young women is a small price to pay for glory immortal.
Until we get our collective head out of our ass and treat teachers and cops and sanitation workers and firefighters and the men and women we send into combat as the priceless resources that protect our lives, care for our children and make our country worth living in, were doomed to a future of self-centered stupidity and civic ignorance.
Bread and Circuses brought Rome to its knees. Will our epitaph be Football and Junk Food?

When I was young this was one of my favorite songs, and I couldn't imagine getting old
Old friends, old friends
Sat on their park bench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes of the old friends
Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sun
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settle like dust on the shoulders of the old friends
Can you imagine us years from today?
Sharing a park bench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends, memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears
Time it was and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you
SIMON AND GARFUNKEL - OLD FRIENDS/BOOKENDS
I never quite understood it, I was in my teens, I loved the melodies. Now, as I careen into my senior years, I understand.
Time passes so quickly.
Preserve your memories
they're al that's left you.
Thank you.
“There are but three true sports -- bullfighting, mountain climbing, and motor-racing.
The rest are merely games.
