My message to the Denver Post message board admin
So in an article about Obama releasing his long form birth certificate, several of the wingers were using absence of evidence arguments to justify STILL believing that Obama was born out of country.

I explained to them a couple of times that they were using absence of evidence arguments...and what that term meant. But the persisted. One even admitted that he didn't know the term.

So I posted:

AGAIN...this is an Absence of Evidence is Evidence of Absence argument. You don't know what that means? Look it up.

Here's an example:

Funny is a child molester. There is no proof that he isn't...so it must be true.

It's dishonest. And it lacks intelligence.

The message I received from the admin:

Deleted this comment -- you have a point, but the example you used was hideous.

-Joe

My reply to Joe the admin:

Joe...allowing people to make absence of evidence arguments is a disservice to our entire country.

That's fine if you don't like the example. But allowing Birthers to use absence of evidence arguments for the last two years....10,000 times more disgusting than my example.

Your admin board should hang your head in shame for allowing this to continue on for two years and not deleting every single post using absence of evidence as an argument for Obama's birth place.

I believe journalism school teaches future press people NOT to report on rumors. Not only did your paper report on rumors...they allowed arguments that drag our country down. If I did such a thing in my job, I not only would be fired, I'd be drummed out of my industry.

Please pass this message on to your "reporters".

No reply as of yet.

2. Why is it that using an example that would possibly get through
the thick heads of people is too offensive to allow? I will say that "child molester" is vile, as would be "rapist" or "serial killer". But I don't think that anyone would pay attention to "nose picker".
