Storm today kills 5 in Alabama. DU ers in Tenn, Missouri, Ark...check in if you can.
In North Ala. it hit hard, "hurricane force winds" still blowing, 250,000 without power.

Down here in SW Ala. ferocious winds, no rain tho.

How is everyone else doing with this storm today?

1. Middle TN here. Fine so far.
Storms last night went to the north from Nashville. Looks like we've got another round or two coming our way, though.
Relatives in West TN have received 8" of rain so far.

11. You have to upload a copy of the photo onto something like Photobucket
( or a site like it that keeps pics for you).

then put the "image code" here in your DU thread. The pic will appear as a jpg, that is the most common file extension.
If you delete the pic from your Photobucket account the pic will not show on DU anymore.

4. It was nasty here around 9:30 this morning and the damage
is widespread. Areas in N GA, to Hixson TN. My area was popped pretty hard (between Chattanooga and Cleveland) and an area in S. Bradley Co. was torn all to hell.

Confirmed touchdown in Tiftonia, something popped the St. Elmo area and an area at UTC and huge trees are down.

We're getting ready for it again. The next band is around Henegar, AL and is expected to hit Dunlap, TN in about 15 mins.

Over 64,000 out of power.

Stay safe.

10. I'm a little south of you, in Meigs County. Starting to thunder bad right now
..and my trees are swirling in circles. They just announced over the police scanner that we are under severe storm warning again, and they have shelters open and ready.

Your animated radar shows me about to get slammed by that big red cell lol. I'm the tiny little county there next to the arrowhead shaped one.

Stay safe, neighbor!

Round 2 while unnerving wasn't as bad as this morning here. There's another band of this moving in later. I've had enough.

The south end and down your way has been getting hit harder, but you're right about this morning.. at one time it was raining so hard and the wind blowing so hard it sounded like I was inside a carwash lol

Stay safe down that way, the leading edge just passed thru here but wasn't too bad. We still have more coming...

Peace,

This morning the wind was howling, blowing porch furniture around, and the cat and I got in the 'safe place', which was a first for me.

Round 2 had brought really close lightning, high winds and driving winds and hail.

through here...lots of lightening, high winds and hail. There's another band, not cells, but a band of this crap coming through before midnight.

There was a gent on the local news earlier who had a tree downed on his car in front of the high school my younger two attend, Tyner. Just received the call that school is cancelled for tomorrow.

My Mom is without power in N GA, and I try to call her, try as in phone service doesn't always work, to tell them when they have a new warning. A friend in GA is now without power, so I call him to tell him about new warnings there.

My oldest is in Rutherford County and when I was on the phone with him a couple of hours ago MTSU sent out a warning to students that they had a tornado warning in SE Rutherford, CO. I think it was in his freshman year when a tornado was rather close to the campus.

Oh, and my spouse works for Volunteer Energy, so I don't know when I'll see him again.

I heard hours ago that something nasty was headed toward Ten Mile.

I don't know about you, but I'm worn out with all of this shit today, and it's still thundering and shaking the floor under my feet and the worst has been gone for about 10 minutes.

edit to add: my husband just called and two of the men who work for him have lost their homes in the Blue Springs Rd. area in S Bradley County.:-( Another two families without a home around here. I gotta call and check on the oldest.

38. Wow, hang in there tnlefty! It's starting up again here as I type.Meigs County road crews are out
clearing trees and debris out of the roads right now. Just came across the scanner for all County Emergency Personell to be prepared for a large storm coming into our county from Rhea county, and Rhea county is reporting tornado and/or wind damage with this one. My view from my place is over towards Watts Bar Dam and I've been watching the lightning get closer and closer for the last 30 mins or so.

I hope your husband is safe out there. VEC from Meigs County is sending a crew or two to help out Bradley county. I haven't lost power so far. My son and I drove to Athens about 5:30 and the power was out in the whole city limits and business district. Even the wal-mart parking lot was empty, except for a few employee vehicles.

Peace,
Ghost

We are having very strong winds outside, but no storms.
Still, there are so many trees which were weakened

18. I heard on the local news that this storm damaged the
courthouse in Cullmann, AL and rendered their hospital useless. Scary stuff. This system has already led to tornado warnings in Dade and Walker Counties in GA, and if stays together it's tracking into Chattanooga and it will come out my way, again. This has been going on all day.

My oldest is a student at MTSU and he called a few minutes ago and while we were on the phone the university alerted him via phone that there is a tornado warning for SE Rutherford County. This will go on here until midnight or later.

It's beginning to thunder here again, so it's time for me to step away from the computer and go check the news.

A 41 yr. old woman was killed in Shephard Hills earlier today when a tree fell on the house. A man and a child has made it into a closet and they're okay.:(

Yes. I just now got hold of my only friend there who still has a landline. He said that Browns Ferry was hit and the entire county is without power, and many cell towers are down. She may not have service, or her battery may be dead with no way to recharge.

We were elementary school kids on 15 November 1989 when several of our neighbors were killed. This is the worst outbreak since then and the death and destruction toll may top that one.
