Blown-out windows, stripped roof forces Lambert (St. Louis) Airport to close
from the STL Post-Dispatch:

ST. LOUIS • Lambert-St. Louis International Airport closed indefinitely Friday after storms put holes in the roof of one concourse, blew out windows and caused power outages.

Passengers also had been stuck on planes on the tarmac. Flights have been diverted to Kansas City.

Four people were taken to area hospitals from the airport for treatment of minor injuries.

Spokesman Jeff Lea said airport managers are coming in to assess damage to this point. Mayor Francis G. Slay also came out to survey the damage. ..............(more)

4. Dallas is......

...... American drastically downsized St. Louis to the point that it's no longer even a hub for them.

6. I guess I assumed it was still a major hub
because our company which is based in St. Louis demands we use American for all travel. But American only has 2 - 3 flights per day from Cleveland.

By brother worked for TWA until American bought them and pretty much cleaned house at TWA.

7. I was through St. Louis three years ago
when it still was a hub for American going on to Jacksonville. Many terminals were closed down. I wonder how this will impact the remaining terminals.

It is a shame because I used TWA alot when it still was around. Part of the airline consolidation.

5. It used to be TWA's, but after AA bought out TWA,
STL kind of fell off the radar.

8. Just south west of St. Louis here
we have been having some wackier than usual weather this spring (snow in St. L the day we got back from Madison! A big snow the day we picked up my mom and niece from Lambert in late March, lots of crazy tornadoes to our north and south!!).
From the small bit I saw reported in local news, I would like to give a shout out to the employees at Lambert. Looks like they were on their toes and probably helped prevent even more injuries.

10. pretty much
we are in High Ridge, and I am thinking our high altitude may have something to do with it.
We feel pretty lucky we keep getting missed.
