Atlas Shrugged --> 6% on Rotten Tomatoes

Sample reviews:

Don't hold your breath for parts 2 and 3. - Joe Morgenstern - WSJ

This movie is crushingly ordinary in every way. -- Michael Phillips, ChigTrib

Ayn Rand's monumental 1,168-page, 1957 novel gets the low-budget, no-talent treatment and sits there flapping on screen like a bludgeoned seal. - Peter Travers - Rolling Stone

Not all books should be made into movies, and this is one of them. - Tom Meek, Boston Pheonix

The first in a proposed trilogy, "Atlas Shrugged: Part 1" is nearly as stilted, didactic and simplistic as Rand's free-market fable. - Mark Jenkins, WaPo

About to lose his long-held rights to Ayn Rand's novel, and perhaps to cash in on apparent Tea Party interest and support, producer John Aglialoro ... rushed this film into a low-budget production and it shows in every frame. - Loren King, Boston Globe

1. I saw the trailer and it just doesn't look good.
It looks low budget and pieced together. It might look disjointed because the trailer is bad or the story is difficult to tell, but it still looks low budget.

18. I hate Ayn Rand
Atlas Shrugged was the worst book I have ever read. I have no doubt the movie will be also.

33. Even in her own time high speed rail was killed
not by the government, but by private industry buying it up and destroying so you'd be forced to have a car. Her story was pointless when written. In the day when government tries desperately to invest in new technology such as high speed rail only to be crushed by free market nuts. It can only be one of the worst movie ideas of all time. Ebert does indeed nail it.

37. Very good points you make
She was wrong on all counts and the movie just compounds that.
And Ebert has been getting better each year and takes both Rand and the film apart deftly.

3. Wow...that's a BIG improvement since last night, when it was at 0%...
(Never mind -- the change is due to a positive review from Murdoch's New York Post. I should have known.)

4. Fans of bad movies! Brothers, I implore you
Hold! Steady on, and let us go not to the theaters and support with our paid admission that which ought not be supported. Wait for this delightful and delicious nugget of poop to be foist upon us for free through movies on demand or some such outlet. The anticipation will make the ache of waiting worthwhile from all available sources.

5. Of the 16 reviews, the only good one is from the critic at the New York Post.
That's kinda like being the one dentist out of five who doesn't recommend sugarless gum.

Still, not the kind of so-bad-it's-good movie that I like to watch.

17. "Battlefield Earth" was Plan 9 made with a $90,000,000 budget.
Though I do feel "AS - Pt 1" will be infinitely worse.

25. Seriously, can you imagine...
the Teabag crowd watching a yawn-fest like the movie must be? How does the screenplay deal with those looooooooong pages and pages that sound like schizophrenic word salad?

Did they bring all the struggle over sex into the movie? Maybe there's enough fightin' and fuckin' to keep the droolers amused.

30. To this day I cannot believe I actually that entire book.
It was so awful. I guess it was a test of will for me. On the other hand, I never could make it through Moby Dick, generally considered a much better book. I don't know what's wrong with me LOL.

32. I couldn't finish Moby Dick either.
Melville just kept saying the same damned things OVER and OVER and OVER again. After six hundred pages, I'd had enough.

But I don't think he always wrote in that style; I thought Billy Budd was pretty good.
