Feingold for 2012?
"Since its launch on Feb. 16, the political action committee that former Wisconsin senator Russ Feingold started to fight corporate influence in politics and support progressive causes has raised more than $1 million from over 20,000 donors.

The PAC, Progressives United, is a grassroots effort aimed at countering the effects of the Supreme Court's infamous Citizens United decision, which opened the floodgates to corporate spending in the U.S. electoral system."

Checking big corps needs to be the Democratic platform in 2012. Feingold has got this one right.

1. The Party will never allow
a 2012 challenger.

2. Of course I'd vote for Feingold in a primary!
But that will never happen.

3. Hmm...guy lost his bid for re-election in 2010. Not a good start.
I like Feingold very much, but he's just another non-starter when it comes to the Presidency. Losing a recent statewide election is not a good addition to one's resume when running for that job. Nope.

6. I'm not so sure Feingold *really* lost that election. Officially, yes. Legitimately, up for debate

8. Doesn't matter when it comes to running for President.
I doubt Feingold could win a single primary. His name recognition outside of Wisconsin is almost nil, except for true followers of political news.

He has the same problem most of the suggested primary candidates have - unelectibality.

12. Man what color is your sky?
A 2012 challenge by Russ wouldn't be about making it on the ticket.

It would do 2 things:
1: Move the debate over to my side from your side.
2: Give him the very name recognition you say he lacks nationally.

Even an exploratory for 2012 could accomplish those goals and set him for 2016.

All that aside, I think Russ will be running for Wi Gov. rather than challenging Obama, maybe even this year depending on the recall efforts.

20. I knew almost nothing about Obama before he ran. And Hillary,
Edited on Fri Apr-15-11 10:36 AM by Zorra
his primary opponent in primary, had indisputably enormous name recognition.

11. How many seats did we lose in the House under Obama?
Lots of successful pres. candidates have lost statewides. ( Nixon, Lincoln come to mind.)

Obama lost a house race to Bobby Rush.

Feingold may or may not be plausible. But let's be clear about why or why not.

Too bad, but I don't blame him. This country is in a world of shit. You'd have to be a madman to throw your hat into the ring of fire.

9. I agree. Although there was this post earlier in the week
that argues whoever primaries the President stands a stronger chance of winning in the next run.

13. From what I remember
Feingold abandoned his Presidential aspirations when he got divorced because of the disdain for that in our leaders.

But hell, Newt? Trump?

Does THAT even matter anymore?

I'd love to see a primary challenge from Feingold...but I would rather see a fourth party emerge from it of Progressives.

If the teabaggers can pull the republicans right...maybe a progressive party can pull the Democrats back left.

15. He Had A Chance And Wasn't Interested...
There was a lot of people pushing him to run in '08 and he made it clear at that time he wasn't interested...that his main interests were in being in the Senate where he felt he could be more effective.

I agree with others here who see him running for Governor next year. He'd be Wanker's worst nightmare...an opponent who has solid name recognition and I would guess would carry Dane and Milwaukee Counties with huge margins...too big for the Kochroaches there to steal.

19. Nope, I at least want him for governor of WI and not a sacrifial lamb for pissed progressives.
Feingold is not stupid and he knows there is no way he would ever win the nomination from Obama without hurting the Democratic Party in the attempt. Aside from that he knows he never could be elected anyways and would lose big-time.

There is a schism in the Republican party now and we should take advantage of that instead of going and doing likewise.

22. I'm in. ProgressivesUnited.org --check it out.
Here's the last email I got from Russ...

It's amazing how much we've done since we launched Progressives United a few weeks ago.

We asked progressives like you to help set our agenda, and had tens of thousands of people contribute ideas and feedback.

When we needed to hold Wisconsin legislators accountable for their corporate lobbyist fundraiser in Washington, so much support came pouring in that we were able to run even more ads than we planned.

Also, 16,173 progressives -- including you -- have made a contribution to become founding members of Progressives United. I'm truly grateful for that.

Now we're trying to get to 20,000 founding members before we close the program at midnight tonight.

So I'm asking each existing founding member to recruit one new founding member from among their friends before midnight tonight. Please ask someone you know to go to http://www.progressivesunited.org/foundingmember and join us.

If television was your only source of news, you might not even realize that political corruption by corporate interests is a major issue in this country.

But we're seeing now that many Americans -- Americans like you and me -- know it is an issue. A huge issue. And we're everywhere, in communities all across the country.

Progressives United is helping us connect with each other so we can begin to fight back. Because you're a founding member, you can say you were there at the beginning.

But this group isn't about me, or you, or any one of us individually. It's about all of us uniting. That means if you know another progressive who could be a founding member, we need you to reach out to them today to help us reach our goal of 20,000 founding members before midnight.

Help recruit one of your friends to join you as a founding member today by going to http://www.progressivesunited.org/foundingmember.

The end of March marks the first full month we've been in operation, and the passion and intensity progressives like you have shown has bowled me over.

I know that together we're going to keep it going.

Thanks for uniting as a progressive,

Russ Feingold
Founder
Progressives United
