9. That might be true, but in totality, there is a problem would you not agree?
Not every state has a Sanders....

And even so Sanders votes with them disregarding principle when it counts and when they need his vote.

But still, if we could fill up the Senate with people like Sanders that would be great.

It makes one wonder why so many DEMS aren't like him. I think his views pretty much describe everything a Democrat should stand for...

12. I'm not just talking about Sanders.
or Peter Welch or Pat Leahy- and Peter is turning out to be as good as Sanders. And frankly, I think it's idiotic to never expect pragmatism or to see it as wholly undesirable- see the tea party for a frank example. And no, I don't think that Sanders sacrifices his principles. In Vermont, at the state level, we have a statehouse full of smart, liberal and principled dems.

But yeah, on a national level, there is a big problem.

13. That's what I'm talking about. Democrats when running for office
sound like Bernie Sanders.

However they don't act like it once they are elected. I'm speaking on a national level of course.

But our daily lives are driven by the decisions these people make.

Why are they so weak kneed?

It is purposeful. Is there something that happens when they get there that makes them forget why people elected them?

Is it money??

Is it belonging to a club?

Is it fear?

Is it corruption?

Was it that they only said those things to get elected then join the club and keep on giving good speeches, when their actions show they don't really believe what they are saying?

Something is really really wrong.

I keep coming back to the belief that it is all kabuki theater and people in control are not really in control.

Makes me sound and feel crazy!

I just cannot grasp another reason as to why they would turn their backs on the people that elected them in such an in your face way.

14. I can't remember which book it was by Sinclair Lewis
Maybe Arrowsmith...but there was a character who was kind of a populist politician, if I recall, from the Midwest. When he got elected and went to the US Senate, he became increasingly removed from the life and politics of the Midwestern state he came from. That was back in the '20s.

I'm not saying that everyone who goes to Congress loses touch with "the people"; I'm just saying that it's nothing new when it does happen, I guess.

16. How come Republicans get what they want when in control and when not in control?
Maybe the problem lies with the voting democratic populace.

Fear vs principle.

People who vote for them are afraid or political consequence vs. standing up for principle.

So possibly it's all those who would defend the Dems on this budget type of stuff, who are the true problem.

They won't join in on standing on principle so they weaken the voice of democratic principles.

24. They brazenly serve wealthy, powerful elites.
Some (too many) Dems pay a lot of progressive lip service, but end up doing the bidding of those powerful elites.

10. Negativity saps your energy
Right wingers, gotta give it to them, are positive and goal oriented. They will not let not getting everything at once stop them from trying. they still hammer away at abortion after nearly 40 years. The left would be angry at Reagan for not doing away with it by 1982.

With support like that, no wonder their leaders are so intransigent.

11. Where are our Democrats in power behaving like they have a positive goal oriented
agenda.

Looks like their agenda is driven by what fruit loops and nutbags want.

Makes you wonder why that is?

15. Apathy saps your soul. Drains it out the bottom end and leaves
a shell of a person, a shade of a memory of a man. Also interesting that you see the Radical Right to Lifers as 'positive and goal oriented'. They use vile tactics, including violence. How is that 'positive'? Please explain. Start with Dr Tiller, and tell us about positivity on the right.

19. And if people would stand up for Democratic
principles spelled out in the party platform, instead on acquiescing in fear, we might just succeed with a positive goal oriented agenda!

It is our side who is always willing to cave in on our principles.

29. There is nothing adult about rewarding tantrums, letting lies stand as truth, or giving away the
the present, the advances of the past, and our common future.

If that is the new definition of "adult" then I fear for the children even more than I already do.

Think about how such "adults" would rear their kids.

Being adult isn't defined by conflict avoidance and rewarding insanity and falsehoods.
