How did Abe Lincoln die and other ridiculous questions
today was one of those days.

One crazy question after another...

How did Lincoln die?

Did they know how to do multiplication during the Civil War?

Is anyone alive that served in the Civil War?

1. How can someone get to 8th grade and not know how Lincoln died?
This is a direct result of teaching to the test in lower grades.

One Elementary teacher told me they are allowed 30 minutes a week on Social Studies

I get kids in 8th grade that don't even know how to read a map

put France on a map...most couldn't do it. France was literally all over the map.

3. depending on the age of the child
the last question isn't totally insane. If they don't have any direct experience with death they many never really thought of the age at which people die.

5. Lincoln said in a speech, "Four score and seven years ago..."
If you didn't know multiplication, you didn't know what he said.

7. There were people here in Georgia up through the 70s+ that claimed to be Civil War veterans.
And there are a number of Georgians that believe that they still survive.

Some of them are in public office.

Sigh.

9. Lincoln was sitting in his chair when Medusa came by and he looked at her.
And then we put his corpse in a building on the Mall in Washington so everyone could see the dangers of looking at gorgons.
