Low Tides Reveal SF Ocean Beach Shipwreck

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - Visitors who flocked to San Francisco's Ocean Beach because of Thursday's warmer temperatures were also treated to a glimpse of history as an old shipwreck once again became visible from the shoreline.

The King Phillip was a 19th Century cargo ship that ran aground in heavy surf on January 25th, 1878. It is rarely visible.

"I've been walking here for about 40 years and this is the first time that I've seen it," said one woman.

2. I don't know but it is odd if, indeed, it has not been seen
before (or at least not seen in the past 40 years.

3. It's a poignant reminder that just like them little Fukushima atoms drifting everywhere...
...out of sight may be out of mind but it doesn't mean it's not still there.

4. Nice, I just finished posting this on Facebook :)
I would love to make it out there while it's still visible.

7. is it protected or can a person metal detect around it?
I'd really like to get into or onto a beach near something like that for a low tide or two.
