All the fuss this week over ALEC, a right-wing organization said to be the mastermind behind a nationwide wave of conservative proposals and laws, inspired me to look into whether the group has anything to do with a spate of recent legislation from Gov. Scott Walker and Republican lawmakers.
My first step was to consult the online "study" guide about the shadowy American Legislative Exchange Council written by UWE-Madison history professor William Cronon.

It looks like our governor and Republican legislators could indeed by following this handy manual.

But so what, asks Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, when I called him about my discovery. Fitzgerald says he has been a proud member of ALEC since he first became a legislator in 1994, and is currently the Wisconsin State Chairman.
DUers, If you decide to link to ALEC's State Legislators Guide to Repealing Obamacare, that link is gone. The author provides another link, and wonders in the article how long that link will last.
Not only Wisconsin, but other states are using ALEC resources to attack health care legislation. This article addresses health care, but legislators are certainly using guidelines from ALEC to attack the middle class, unions, teachers, and surely anyone who is not a wealthy conservative. They are providing boilerpIate legislation for conservatives to use, so they can tailor it to their individual states. I encourage you to read the article.
No wonder they are after Professor Cronon for his expose of this group. These types operate better in the dark.
