On History Channel's refusal to air "The Kennedys"
Edited on Sat Mar-26-11 01:01 PM by Thunderstruck
"While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand,' says the History Channel regarding "The Kennedys".

This coming from the same channel that gives us Nostradamus-out-the-ass and Ancient Aliens, among other foolishness.

1. Good point.
Must be a mealy mouthed way to say they don't want to mess with such an iconic family. I don't know what's in it, but that's pretty spineless. I bet it involves JFK's libido.

3. "pretty spineless"?
No, it was a RW hatchet job on the Kennedy.

15. As I said, I didn't know what was in it.
This is the first I've heard of a Kennedy family bio.

16. Yet, that didn't stop you from...

speculating that it had something to do with JFK's "libido".

25. Do you think you'll be alright?

I guess I should just sit here and shut the fuck up unless you OK my comments in fucking advance so as not to offend the sensitivity of your motherfucking superior insight to the world of documentaries.

How's that for libido.

4. If they want to talk about libido, they should do a piece on GOP bathroom sex.

2. Aren't they owned by the same bunch that gave us Grizzlymom's surreal, gruesome safari?
Edited on Sat Mar-26-11 01:02 PM by freshwest
Probably also owns shows like Dancing With The Stars that gave Bristol her unwarranted claim to fame... and don't forget Tom Delay on the same show.

The corporatist media is driving everyone insane and refusing to show anything that's really happening. And they are determined to kill off any mention of anyone that ever did anything right.

The neverending villification of the Kennedys by the right proves the Kennedys must have been a great threat to the fascists. So they want to wipe out any proof that anyone ever resisted their meme.

To hell with the media!

Uh, and good morning, DU...

5. I read that the movie is a right-wing hit job: No surprise, it's Joel Surnow
More on the movie: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/19/the-kennedys-miniseries-trailer_n_837950.html

Apparently it's trash rejected by numerous networks.

And get a load of this, from Wikipedia, about its producer: Surnow has described himself as a supporter of the Republican Party, donating money to the campaign of Rick Santorum and expressing particular admiration for former President Ronald Reagan. He is also a close friend of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.

If you need more, he's also a producer at Fox News and creator of the execrable Half Hour News Hour.

10. Well, I wasn't aware of all this. Guess I should have looked further into
it. It was just weird to me that a channel that calls itself HISTORY would reject a movie about a historical family and era in our history yet broadcast crap like Nostradamus.

14. No problemo. A good miniseries would be welcomed, but this isn't it.
Pretty good cast, too, but Surnam obviously hates the Kennedys.

19. History has its good moments.
The Revolution was an excellent series, as was WWII in HD.

11. Every network turned it down but one small one
There is a reason for that kind of rejection. Maybe no one saw any value?

12. I knee-jerked myself. I saw the guy on MSNBC talking about it and focused
more on History rejecting a movie about an historical family while showing crap like Ancient Aliens. I had no idea the movie was so maligned since I haven't seen the criticisms and rejections of it.

Kind of embarrassing. But, oh well. That's the chance you take when you go from lurking a forum to actually posting on it.

18. First, it wasn't Discovery. And second, I wasn't here for that discussion last year about this film.
Also, I think I sufficiently explained myself in at least three posts above, which were posted before your post.

21. Just saw an explanation on tv about this
Carolyn and Maria allegedly pressured the History channel to drop it because most of it is not true. The producer? director? said he was targeted because he's a conservative. I don't remember what channel, but I saw it earlier today. Of course, there is no proof of any of this speculation.

22. It's going to be aired beginning of April, can't remember the cable station -
- but I've been seeing ads for it. I plan to watch it as I'm curious as to why History Channel - who really does air some wonky stuff - wouldn't show it. Kennedy-Dirt isn't a surprise - most of that stuff has been known for years and we've got the internet to help us sort out whatever crap they may shovel - so I'm not sure what type of a hatchet job there could be.

I'm a big girl, I can actually watch things and sort out truth from fiction!

primary residence was Florida so they wouldn't have to pay taxes in mass. Nice

24. Right-wing hatchet job or not, it's fun to hear the History Channel talking about "brand" integrity
Given their obsession with the Bible Code, Bigfoot, aliens, Nostradumbass, 2012, Nazi occult, etc.
