My heart goes out to them.

9. That last picture brings back memories of what the stores in South Louisiana looked like
after Katrina -- the ones that were opened. Trucks from distribution centers weren't able to get in for deliveries. It was a miserable situation. That's why I've avoided most of the Japan threads; what they have to face is much, much worse.

Japan had three disasters in one. There aren't words to describe how sorry I am for what they're going through. It's going to be rough for years.

11. All you need is a snow scare to find empty shelves in a
grocery store. When they went to the just in time delivery model several years back there is less and less kept in the store's backrooms. Just enough until the next truck arrives and when it doesn't for whatever reason out of stock becomes the norm.

26. I hope it doesn't go months at a time, though, to the point where MRE's are given out
& National Guardsmen with rifles are everywhere. I went through one other just-as-devastating hurricane in my life but it was during LBJ's presidency. The aftermath was a lot more organized & non-frightening than the chaotic, intimidating one endured under Bush's fascist mindset.

40. No, it doesn't and I understand your points
I have family in NOLA and they spent time with me during & post Katrina. My point was about the supply chain, nothing more.

Her eyes, I can't imagine what's going on behind them.
She's beautiful.
And that one picture hurt.

24. I Love Japan
the night of the Tsunami, my husband came home from work...he's a chef and it was about 10:30PM - he said, "let's go to Japan in May" I was so excited, because I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to travel to Japan again, due to my problems with Post Polio Syndrome. But then I got a new brace and for the first time in my life, I'm walking like everyone else.

Our family is safe, but this food/water shortage is very worrisome.

36. If you go to, say, the Kyoto area, you should be OK.
Even Tokyo is not that bad off, but central/western Japan would probably be a better destination at this time.
