Local Bar Owner Busted for $5 NCAA brackets. - I feel safer already!
Here's a story about one MI govt agency with too much fat in its budget.

The link is to a Lansing teevee station with a news operation:

Local Bar Owner Busted for Brackets
A local bar owner was busted by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for operating a NCAA bracket pool.
Reporter: Jamie Edmonds

It started out as an idea among friends.

"It was the regulars that came in saying, 'hey I want to fill out brackets to follow our teams," One bar owner said.

The local bar owner asked to remain anonymous, but tells us he set up a NCAA bracket pool for his patrons, five dollars a bracket, winner take all. Everything was going well, until the day before the tournament started.

"I'm outside and walk into find two investigators from the Liquor Control Commission, having lunch and taking down my liquor license," he said.

The owner said the investigators seized the couple dozen brackets and the small amount of money, and told him he was in big trouble.

"Like I'm a criminal for doing something illegal, where any place you go has a bracket," he said.

He received a violation notice before the investigators left, and he said they told him this case would be forwarded to the Attorney General's Office.

2. I can see why they busted him
The only people who are allowed to make money on the NCAA tournament are the TV networks, coaches and people selling crap with "March Madness" written on it.

4. I believe the head of the LCC is an appointee of Gov. Rick Snyder
Good appointment, Rick!

Everybody knows five dollar bracket pools are a gateway bet that eventually leads to Gamblers Anonymous or worse.
