Florida GOP-controlled House unveils bill to gut growth-management laws
Aaron Deslatte reports in the Orlando Sentinel:

March 17, 2011

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida House wants to gut state growth-management requirements for cities and counties, unshackle developers and make it harder for citizens to go to court to stop local growth decisions.

The chamber rolled out its first-stab at major surgery on Florida's once-heralded growth law Thursday, a proposal that repeals mandates for local governments to have new roads, schools, parks and recreation in place at the same time new development occurs – a requirement called "concurrency."

"It lets locals plan for their future, removing many demands and dictates placed on them by the state," said Rep. Rich Workman, R-Melbourne, who rolled out the "Community Planning Act" in his Community and Military Affairs Subcommittee.
"Florida growth management laws have evolved into prescriptive costly and burdensome regulations," Workman said, echoing a theme sounded by both Republican lawmakers and Gov. Rick Scott.

The proposal would largely neuter the comprehensive growth plans that locals now have to approve and get cleared by the Department of Community Affairs. ..... GOP legislators this year are eager to scale-back regulations on development. Scott and legislative leaders are planning to demolish the Department of Community Affairs, shifting its land-planning duties to a yet-to-be-determined state agency.

Give us a F*#&^%@ break!

HYPOCRITES, THIEVES AND LIARS, every last stinking one of them.

Remember "Hometown Democracy", which was Amendment 4 on the ballot last November?

Giving local residents a say in the control over growth of their communities was the entire point of Amendment 4 on the ballot last November.

Unfortunately, due to massive amounts of money pumped into right wing propaganda blanketing the state's voters to VOTE NO ON 4, the amendment was defeated.

And now, these traitors are coming back to us with a crock of excrement called the "Community Planning Act".

The Great Florida GOP Heist is on.

To the GOP-controlled Legislature and Rick Scott, get out of our face.

And out of our State House and Governor's mansion.

God, these people make me sick.

1. Yeah, because Florida has always been THE model for sane, sustainable development.
Now the developers and investors won't even have to go to the trouble of running for, or buying elected positions at the local level to get their projects green-lighted. They'll just buy the land and do it.
