Union bill limps through Senate panel
http://www.postonpolitics.com/2011/03/union-bill-limps-through-senate-panel/comment-page-1/

by John Kennedy | March 14th, 2011
....“This is nothing more than an attempt to eradicate the voice of union members,” said Jeff McAdams, a union representative for the Gainesville Police Department and Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

The legislation would make it more difficult for unions to draw financing by barring state or local governments, including school boards, from deducting or collecting union dues, ending what has been a common practice for decades.

It also would allow any public employee who didn’t specifically authorize how deductions are used to demand a partial refund of any political spending....

This bill will make it more difficult for FL unions to collect dues. Now members will have to make individual voluntary payments. I can imagine that many members will no longer pay dues because of more pressing financial obligations. In Miami-Dade County dues are nearly $800.00 a year ($40.59 per paycheck).

2. Of course it will. This is not about saving money.......
in government. This is about taking out the unions and, by extension, any representative of the people in politics. It's part of the coordinated coup d'etat being pulled off by the corporatocracy against the people.

3. It will cost the unions more to collect the dues.
The School Board can simply not allow dues to be deducted from our paychecks. This has been a great convenience for the union, and has been a way for them to more reliably count on collecting dues. I suppose that the unions would have to come up with a way to collect dues through automatic payments from its members.
