Republicans Have Their Lieberman, And You Can Thank The Tea Party

SNIP

Quick quiz — only one Republican senator has sided with Democrats on DADT repeal, (and) the tax deal, (and) New START cloture (and the START final vote), and the DREAM Act in the lame-duck session. Who was it?

The obvious guesses would likely be Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Susan Collins (R-Maine), or Scott Brown (R-Mass.). But the truth is a little further north.

Now no one expects Lisa Murkowski to become a Democrat, but she clearly feels reduced loyalty to the GOP. Joe Miller has managed to take a reliably Republican vote and turn her into something both parties hate, a “maverick.” In addition to the Senate seats in Delaware, Nevada, and Colorado, the Democrats may owe the Tea Party thanks for a crossover vote from one of the reddest states in the country.

So, I guess we do owe the Teaparty/GOP a little thank you for pissing off Murkowski and giving us another republican swing voter :)

1. Since her votes were sensible in these 4 instances, that's a maverick I can live with.
If she pisses on McTurtle, so much the better.

2. I think we can be more specific about exactly who we have to thank
Who was the Alaskan politician who hated Murkowski so bad she recruited beard boy Miller to run against her?

Who delivered unbelievably nasty campaign phone messages about Murkowski to the voters?

Who made impassioned (and shrill and annoying) campaign speeches in support of Miller's candidacy?

I don't want Palin to ever go away. I want her to support more idiot wing nut candidates.

But I sure would love it if she'd STFU.

3. Let's hope we can persuade her on some key votes in the
next 2 years.

4. Party loyalty for her ended at the border of her state after they tried to villify her.
Acting like a Republican, like the old Republicans of the 1950's, isn't so hard to deal with.
Those guys made some sense instead of the knuckleheaded chuckleheads they have now that all act like a bunch of bobbleheads just saying "No" to everything.

Murkowski is much more likely to be the face of the future for the GOP than either McCain or Palin now that she knows that they tried to stab her in the back.

5. And all the teaparty heads are exploding
The TeaParty has been saying for quite a long time now that Scott Brown is a traitor and a RINO,
and they are furious with Collins & Snowe for voting with the Democrats.

Murkowski, Brown, Collins, and Snowe should begin preparing their strategies and raising money now for their next elections :)

p.s. I'd love to see some of the republican 'old codgers' like Sessions, Grassley, McConnell, McCain be replaced with younger moderate republicans :)

7. Better her than Joe Schmoe the Tea Bagger
She's a lot more moderate than him, and no annoying Palin connections. (Suffice to say, I'm sure Lisa M. can't stand her any more than we can!)

8. Murkowski.
Owes her loyalty to the voters in her state that helped her make history. If those voters wanted an unthinking, partisan hothead, they would have cast their votes for Joe Miller. Murkowski owes nothing to voters that voted for one of the other candidates, but if she becomes a model Senator, she will sit before them and listen to their side of issues before shaping her votes.

9. Having been a victim of the baggers' vile behavior, Murkowski has surely
given a lot of thought about how far-out-there & dishonest they are. She's had a chance to see them from an objective view & surely would not want to be regarded as a fool.

Murkowski's situation in the last election couldn't have worked out better for those who have had it up to here with Republican/teabagger chicanery. As an Independent, Murkowski is free from obligation & loyalty to use her common sense as a senator. And from what I've observed during her last campaign, she has a sensible mind & doesn't suffer foolish teabagger behavior.
