The Globe and MailStockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and former leader of the Canadian Alliance, has announced he won’t run for re-election, according to reports.
“After 14 years in provincial government and almost 11 years at the federal level it is time to move on,” Mr. Day said in a statement released to some news outlets. “I hereby announce that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of this mandate.”
Mr. Day was first elected to represent the B.C. riding of Okanagan–Coquihalla in the House of Commons in a 2000 by-election, after winning the leadership of the short-lived Canadian Alliance party. He lost the leadership in 2002 to Stephen Harper, who went on to merge the Alliance with the Progressive Conservatives and win a succession of minority governments since 2006.

November 2000:http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2000/11/16/bc_dorisday001116.htmlThe CBC television show, "This Hour has 22 Minutes" now has more than enough signatures for its petition campaign to have Canadian Alliance leader Stockwell Day change his name to Doris Day
The show is using the Alliance referendum formula, that would allow a national vote on any issue, if three per cent of the electorate, or about 350,000 people, signed a petition.
So far, more than 370,000 people have signed the petition to have Day change his name.
