so he isn't likely to run a primary campaign that he hasn't a ghost of a chance of winning.

Saunders is running for the Senate in 2012. He should win, but his seat will be hotly and expensively contested by the Republic of Tea/republican candidate. Trying to run an expensive Senate campaign and an hyper expensive Presidential Campaign is unlikely to happen.
