http://www.mediaite.com/online/mike-huckabee-defends-michelle-obama-against-sarah-palin/

The media has made much of Sarah Palin’s none-so-subtle swipes at the First Lady’s anti-obesity measures from the last episode of her reality series.....
However, Michelle Obama got an unlikely ally from Mike Huckabee who defended her against his 2012 rival. Enemy of my enemy is my friend, I suppose.

(snip)

“With all due respect to my colleague and friend Sarah Palin, I think she’s misunderstood what Michelle Obama is trying to do. Michelle Obama’s not trying to tell people what to eat or force government’s desires on people. She’s stating the obvious, that we have an obesity crisis in this country. And, ‘If you don’t believe me,’ I always tell people, ‘Walk into any third grade class and look around, and then go back and pick up your school class picture if you’re an adult. Look at that picture and tell me what you see that looks starkly different then what you’ll see in today’s third grade. It will shock you.”

1. Palin isn't "misunderstanding" Michelle, she is purposely being an asshole.
If Huckabee really had guts he would tell her to STFU instead of coddling her with apologies of her "misunderstanding".

But I do agree with you, at least he is saying something. He's the only Republican who isn't afraid of Quitterella.

4. Given how stupid that woman is, "misunderstanding" is likely accurate
In any case, Huckabee knows what it's like to have weight completely out of control and what it takes to lose any of it. He's also all too aware that it comes back for most people, even after surgery.

I said in 2008 that Huckabee might be the best of an extremely bad lot simply because he was right once in a blue moon. However, it was an extremely bad lot and he only looked tolerable by comparison.

12. + 1
Sarah's really dumb but she's not dumb enough to think that anybody's "outlawing desert" or whatever, she just says that shit because the dumb freepers that make up her little cult will believe/get poutraged at anything she tells them to.

when we give one credit for acting like a sane human being.

6. And so Free Republic have thrown him under the bus too
Anyone who whispers a word against She Who Must Be Adored is dead meat on FR. Still, their thread threw up this classic response:

"I don't believe in evolution at all, but I don't think you have to believe in evolution to comprehend that Elaine Morgan is almost certainly correct in thinking that humans originally lived in water. We share about a hunded characteristics with the aquatic mammals and are totally without adaptation for life on land. That also says that the original human diet was some combination of shellfish and fruit i.e. stuff we could get our hands on quickly both along the shore and just off it and that, in particular, green vegetables were never a part of the human diet and are a totally unnatural thing for humans to eat.

The whole world knows that a little kid's basic reaction to alcohol and tobacco is correct; why would anybody think that same little kid's reaction to green veggies was wrong?? When something tastes that bad, your body is trying to tell you something. "

14. Classic Pre-operational thinking very confused for an adult, a good blanket for FR cognition.
Arrested cognitive development somewhere about the age 8-10 years, so sad when you contemplate they try to live in an adult world.

15. OK...riddle me this.
Going on the assumption that:
"Something is bad for you" = "You will not like how it tastes because your body is telling you something"...
Then could somebody explain the popularity of refined sugar?

Think I remember reading somewhere that Mama's diet during pregnancy and lactation has an effect on what Junior will prefer once s/he starts choosing what to eat independently.
So, if Mom has a diet high in raw, unprocessed, whole (i.e., 'good for you, healthy') foods, then Junior will display a preference for this sort of thing.

Conversely, if Mom is subsisting on stuff that is processed 6 ways from Sunday, loaded with chemicals, 'flavor enhancers', preservatives, HFCS, etc., then Junior is likely to gravitate towards that.
