Cinematography winner Wally Pfister continues shout out to unions backstage

Politics at the Oscars -- Union Support

http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/02/politics-at-the-oscars-union-support.html

ABC News' Chris Marderosian reports:

At the Academy Awards tonight, best cinematography winner Wally Pfister made a point during his acceptance speech of thanking his union crew on “Inception.”

Backstage he went further, expressing shock at Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposal, which would limit union’s collective bargaining powers. Opponents of the plan have been protesting at the state capitol for 21 days.

“I think that what is going on in Wisconsin is kind of madness right now,” Pfister says. “I have been a union member for 30 years and what the union has given to me is security for my family. They have given me health care in a country that doesn’t provide health care and I think unions are a very important part of the middle class in America all we are trying to do is get a decent wage and have medical care.”

ETA: Just watched the video of him making this statement at the link and they left out a major part of it in the typed description.
Between the words "America" and "all" he said:
"so I stand strong behind any of the union members in this country and any other country because"

so an accurate transcription would read:
“I think that what is going on in Wisconsin is kind of madness right now,” Pfister says. “I have been a union member for 30 years and what the union has given to me is security for my family. They have given me health care in a country that doesn’t provide health care and I think unions are a very important part of the middle class in America so I stand strong behind any of the union members in this country and any other country because we are trying to do is get a decent wage and have medical care.”

4. They have the video of his backstage comments at the link
Just watched it and they left out some of what he said in the text.

The part he said on-air was: Much thanks to my union crew
and some of noticed how purposefully he included that.

2. Good
There should be many many many more. It's like I said before NAFTA; who's gonna buy these pro-NAFTA corporations' crap if we don't have jobs?
Well, who's gonna buy a movie ticket if we make Mexican wages?

6. Yes, there should be many more
After you posted, I watched the video and noticed they left out a key part of his statement.
Added it to OP now.

8. I loved that he said that onstage and that he elaborated
on it backstage.

Not so thrilled with the editing they did in transcribing the backstage speech and leaving out that key part, though.

Glad you were there cheering him on and supporting his point!

27. Yup... that was the one..
Frankly the silence on the protests in Wisconsin pretty much carried over to the AA's, even though in past years Hollywood was proud to support causes by wearing ribbons and such. The lack of union support from a town built on union labor was stunning.

15. Gary Rizzo, who won for Sound Mixing
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=13016595

Gary Rizzo, who won for sound-mixing on "Inception," thanked "all the hard working boom operators and utility sound people that worked on the production crew. Union, of course."

Mmm, champagne. Wish I had some. Enjoy!

did that during the telecast and that he followed up so strongly in the backstage interview.

29. Yep, despite the media spinning for "austerity", the millions spent
and the near blackout on timely coverage, the people get it.

One tiny thing. I wish Walker had been toast in 2010, but did you mean 2012?
