1. Don't call *them* "pro-life"
They aren't.

2. If they were pro-life they'd be against the death penalty, anti-war, and pro-HCR
They're just anti-abortion.

40. Not always true.
I am against war, the death penalty and abortion, and for health care. Still, because I am pro-life, I get called a religious nut who hates women.

6. I didn't make the sign but I agree. They are anti-choice.
When we were counter protesting here at an area clinic, we noticed that the anti-choice group was all older men. When one of them came over to talk to us I asked him which of those women walking in the clinic was the mother of his child. He asked what I meant and I said "Well I noticed you were yelling at each of them as they went in. And you don't have any business telling any woman she can't have an abortion unless you fathered her child. So which one did you have sex with?"

He got all flustered and walked away. No response.

That wording is just a point I feel strongly about. I almost wonder if the photo wasn't a set up, for the anti-choice crowd.

Are you fucking kidding me??? Clearly you don't get WHO's choice it is! It's NOBODY's choice but the pregnant woman's - EVER!!!

33. Unless he is a rapist I believe the father has a say.
Someone close to me was devastated when he learned after the fact that his girlfriend had an abortion without even telling him she was pregnant. It really affected me. Still upsetting.

36. then just admit you're anti-choice
Pro-choice means it is the pregnant person's decision ONLY. No man for ANY reason has any say in what happens to a pregnancy because it is NOT THEM that is pregnant!

Sad for you friend, but it was NEVER his choice to make and NEVER should be even if they may have caused the pregnancy. Being someone's boyfriend or husband does NOT mean you own their body. You don't get to make medical decisions for anyone else but yourself whether it's pregnancy, cancer, a boob job or whatever. Deciding whether or not to abort is a PERSONAL and MEDICAL decision that can and should only be made by the pregnant woman - PERIOD. That's exactly what Pro-Choice IS.

37. No. I admit the father is part of the decision.
A decent man will support the decision a woman makes. But he has a right to be informed.

38. Unless the man has the ability to accept physical ownership of the fetus,
its not his decision. When science figures out a way for men to incubate then they can perhaps have a say. But not until they are able to take the hand-off. Otherwise, you are supporting his right of dominion other her body for the better part of a year.

4. If they're not pro-life from conception to grave
Meaning anti-death penalty, anti-war, pro-health care, pro-education, pro-redistribution of wealth so everyone has the necessities of life - then it can only be about controlling women.

"We really need to control women. All we need is a vehicle with which to do it. I have an idea, that abortion thing we usually don't care about. Let's make a big deal out of that!"

You're giving them too much credit.

Apparently you don't know these kind of people.
The need to control is in their DNA. They are simple-minded bullies because they are fearful and feel inferior.

"If she didn't want to get pregnant she should have kept her legs closed" is at the heart of every anti-choicer. Punishment has always been part of it.

26. It's not really a conspiracy.
Edited on Sun Feb-27-11 11:37 PM by JoeyT
It's a bunch of people that hate women and have latched on to the argument of the moment that gives them a shot at hurting them. If they win and abortion is outlawed, birth control will be next. Then it will probably be something like spousal rape laws, which conservatives oppose(d). Hell, who knows what would come after that. Other rape laws? Owning property? Being allowed to vote?

They're restricted by society to insisting they're just trying to save the precious baybeeez for now. If it weren't for that, they'd be screaming about how we should stone harlots in the town square. The basis for all of this is the apparently totally unreasonable demand by women to control what goes in or comes out of their own bodies.

Edited to add: It's the same reason the Klan claims they really seriously aren't racist, they're just standing up for the rights of white people. They figured out (eventually) that being known as a bunch of racist jackasses hurt their "cause". They're still racist jackasses, but they'll pretend to care about other things publicly because it's the only way they can push for what they want.

Once the child is born, screw it. Especially if the child is born into a poor and/or Hispanic family.

Edited on Sun Feb-27-11 11:10 PM by DURHAM D
Pick something that pertains to only one gender's body and then allow the other gender to control it.

Edit: If you don't want an abortion or think it is wrong then don't have one. Its that easy.

As I said above - if you don't want an abortion don't have one.

Can't you trust everyone else to make their own decisions?

If not, why not?
