K&R if YOU would take part in a National General Strike
It may have come to that, folks.

We may ALL have to put ourselves on the line.

Would YOU go there?

The realization that they can no longer hoodwink the electorate would be truly frightening to them.

Just an involuntary one.

220. Those of us not gainfully employed, don't spend money.
Ideally, in a general strike, there would not be stores open for lack of employees. But, there will be places open. We need to be sure they don't make expenses for the day or days.

BTW, if anyone else wants to start a thread on this idea, I'm glad to see people doing that. I keep hearing that a lot of people have me on ignore, so spreading the thought around in other threads might help.

212. Stike FOR freedom from economic oppression
Let's shut the country down! Let's stop business enterprise. That's what won the day in Egypt. Let's nationalize the oil industry (have you noticed the steadily, ominously climbing price at the pump?) as a way of warning the Koch Brothers of Koch Oil that ultimately this is OUR nation, not theirs. Make no mistake, we are engaged in a struggle for our existence. America was founded upon resistance to the same forces that are now trying to take control of the nation. Let us also free ourselves from the tyranny of business enterprise. This battle should not be limited to collective bargaining rights for unions. As in the 60s, we now have a chance to move into a post-industrial society. The Koch's hate that. Let's make this nation work for its people, not for the oligarchs.

Solidarity! Let Humanity Rise!

Would they jail us all? Do they have enough jails and empty FEMA camps?

26. Yes, mass jailings would be a possibility
but that would have a galvanizing effect on the rest of the country. If they saw people being JAILED by the thousands or tens of thousands just for standing up for their fellow workers, that would change the whole dynamic in this country. The American people would see the system for what it is.

If I had to end up in jail, well, that's how it would go.

25. Oh, yeah
It beats the alternative of doing nothing, and I don't consider a future - where the moneyed classes have won their final victory - as life worth living anyway. I'd rather suffer the consequences of being wrong, which amounts to petty inconveniences in comparison to the horrors that would be inflicted upon humanity if powerful, sinister players are allowed to play out their dénouement.

BTW, I just heard "Boner" is HERE on a GOLFING JUNKET!! Would I LOVE to find out where he's appearing!! Bent Tree Golf Course is right up the road, but I'm sure HE & VERNIE BUCHANAN aren't about "disclosure" of any sort!

But I AM almost sure that Vernie is close by!!

39. Was laid off over a year ago and haven't found full time work -
- so if there's a National general strike of all workers my plan is to hop into the fray and snag a job while the employers are pissed off at the striking workers. I need the money, can't be worried about the politics.

I doubt I'm alone. Probably not the best economic environment to endorse anything like an overall strike or work slowdown. There are waaaay too many unemployed and underemployed just waiting to take your place.

88. I support the theory and practice of the general strike . . . but with one
caveat: that there be a clearly outlined and delineated set of conditions that would bring the strike to an end.

So, what would be the purpose or goal of this general strike? What conditions would need to be satisfied to bring the strike to an end?

96. Yes,
K&R give those who think we have no power something to think about. There are way more of us then them. They honestly believe that all of us will do nothing as they try to destroy the things that have been fought for and won by hard working, average people over many years and some fierce battles. They think we are all going to just lie down and take it. Up till now, there may have been some truth to that, but they should fear that they are awaking a sleeping giant, WE THE PEOPLE.

With Most of the Military Tied Up In the Never ending war with east Asia, Or Oceanna. a Golden opportunity exists for the Progressives to upset the wealthy's apple cart. If the Police nationwide Know that their unions are on the List. ( and they are, They Maybe on the bottom but they're still on the list.)we the people could overwhelm the system peacefully and get the needed change in the Business as usual attitude coming from the Koch bros funded Politicians.Put their feet to the fire and the Media could not ignore us. the Government will be forced to fight us and then we win.

Few Americans know about the history of general strikes, but entire cities have been shut down before. Now, we have the practical means of doing it nationally.

Most are not ready for this kind of thing, but Wisconsin is an education.

I am one of the lucky ones. I just joined a union-for an 'essential' state job and not only do not have enough personal/sick leave built up yet, but it is nescessary to the well-being of others I be there for the time being.

However, since the new protest model is based on staying power, community support and garbage removal, I plan on being back-up volunteer, running errands for participants union and non, and generally being around on my time off.

To the anti-union naysayers, I am surrounded by hard-working people with a higher level of education in their fields than most. They deserve their benefits...and SO DO YOU! When the fuck did America become a race to the bottom? Getting screwed? Sure you are! Set your sights higher and RESIST! Your brothers and sisters are not your enemies, the enemy is people who would exploit you, steal your health, well-being and retirement (which you deserve for years of work and payment into the system) and leave you with shit!

205. K & freakin' R!
What we need in this country is a GENERAL STRIKE. That is the only way that business will listen to WE THE PEOPLE. If we stop producing for them, then, and only then, will they see how much we SHOULD be appreciated by them. If it went on for a few days, they would be begging us to come back to work. A week, and National Guard would be called out in some states. A month, and we might, just might be able to rid ourselves of the corporate albatross hanging on our necks!

210. Without a doubt!

228. It's time to take a stand. Never thought I'd say that, or act on it.
Edited on Sat Feb-26-11 08:02 PM by Honeycombe8
I'm a moderate. In my 50's. I've never protested in my life. I am cursed with a "I see something in both sides" malady (being the middle child of 5).

But it's time to take a stand. It's time for everyone to choose which side you stand on. I have problems with some unions. I think they have greedy and are partly to blame for their situation. They're nothing like what was intended when unions first started.

BUT....if I have to stand for them or against them, I choose to stand for them. In the end, they protect the middle class worker. No one else does.

It is WRONG to end collective bargaining and bust unions. The GOP's goal is political. Budget, my ass. It's a full-out assault on the middle class for political and monetary purposes.

I stand with the middle class. I AM the middle class.

But I would protest only. I would NOT go on strike. I would get fired. It would ruin my life, and I don't have years to make that up. Besides, my employer has done nothing to deserve a strike by me. I have responsibilities to my employer. I will not harm my bosses, when they haven't done anything directly related (they are probably mostly Republicans, though).

For non-union people to strike because of an attack against unions, that's sort of like blowing up a building with some Americans in it because some OTHER Americans killed your family.
