Wow, Lawrence O'Donnell "went there" today on MJ!
He brought up Ian Murphy's prank phone call. Joe mumbled something about how Mika might not think so well of Murphy.

SILENCE around the table. A few nervous titters. Stone faces. Peggy Noonan didn't move a muscle.

What a moment! Lawrence brought Morning Joe to a standstill.

Somehow I don't think this was "in the script" for today's show...

6. He praised Ian Murphy's takedown of Gov. Walker by pretending to be Charles Koch.
Murphy was a guest on Lawrence's show this week. Joe (weakly) tried to get Lawrence to say something critical of Murphy in a veiled reference to the "piece of ass" remark about Mika. Lawrence smilingly said Murphy was my guest and "I don't attack my guests, unless they're on the for me to attack." Lawrence was having a good time putting Joe and the others on the spot, knowling full well they would be caught flat footed.

Hopefully, it'll be up on YouTube soon. If it is, I'll post it!

28. VIDEO HERE
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036789/ns/msnbc_tv-morning_joe#41778438

Lawrence starts talking no-bid deals and Koch bros at about 6:30, mentions Ian Murphy at about 9:20.

It's fairly obvious Mika has imposed a ban on the story.

31. I love it when Lawrence gets Joe's goat, as he clearly did.
It looked like Joe wanted to get into it but restrained himself because he knew he'd just get into hotter water...I like the way you could hear both Eugene and Barnicle snicker. I think Joe was furious at Lawrence, but hey, Joe, if you can dish it out, you should be able to take it, too!

10. Mika B. abruptly took a "much deserved break" from Morning Joe yesterday and today.
It directly followed the publicity about the phone call Murphy (posing as Charles Koch) called and got thru to Gov. Walker and got him to intimidate himself on his treatment of the Wisconsin public workers union. In the conversation, Murphy/Koch referenced the Morning Joe program that Walker had just appeared on, where Koch said "That Mika Brezinski is some piece of ass," to which Walker said "yeah."

Joe has been joking that Mika is "in the south of France" with her family. They have been vewy, vewy quiet on MJ about the incident.

There was real embarrassment when Lawrence "went there." I don't think Joe (or anybody else on at that moment) suspected Lawrence would have the nerve to say something about that call...

4. good I'm glad he brought up the phone call, apparently
on the NBC nightly news not one word was mentioned about Wisconsin, I guess the Koch brothers made some phone calls.

9. Would a serious journalist fall apart over that little comment?
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 09:10 AM by Poboy
Regardless of how offensive or how much exception she took to it, how she reacted (taking leave) only underlines her superficial, lightweight, can't take the heat, shallowness.

14. i think it is weak. i think it is as bad a response as the assholes that made it. i think she needs
to all them out and not put up with this shit. women had to deal with all this crap decades ago. last ten years it has been shifting back to this crap.

25. Listen.
Murphy was trying to sound like the authentic Koch asshole he was portraying on the phone. His words about Mika only added to the masquerade. And Walker bought it hook line and sinker.

16. They actually had Mika on by phone during an earlier interview with Huckabee.
In a lighthearted way, Mika asked Huck if his new book talked about the rich making any sacrifices that he says other people must make. She said it laughingly. My guess is that she wanted to show that she is "taking it" well, which I seriously doubt.

I think that the show has had a very high volume of calls/emails/twitters, etc on this incident...

it'll be interesting to see how they handle it Monday morning on the show...

in the bill Larry was certainly on a roll this morning.

11. He was great on the no bid contract provision! Did you notice that NOBODY
even dared make a comment, much less agree with LO.

Effin' hypocrites and Lawrence wouldn't let them get away with it! I except Eugene Robinson from that. Robinson was clearly lovin' it!

I hope Rachel and Ed get into it. I doubt Tweety will...he's probably weak in the knees to even go there...

15. Yes he shut the panel up fast.
Loved the way Joe was claiming ignorance and contemplating whether the provision was even true or not. I think LO is the first media personality I've heard bring up the no bid contract thing. I'm sure Ed and Rachel will get on it, but you're probably right about Tweety.

17. Peggy Nooners briefly said earlier that Walker was just a bit "besmirched"
recently, without referencing the call itself. Peggy has gotta be bummed by that call. Walker didn't exactly defend Mika when he could have said something disapproving the Mika comment...but he just said "yeah." Not cool, guvnor...

23. See that point is very important.
Scotty Mubarak's defferance to 'Koch' (and his money/power) took precedence. Even if he were offended or did not agree w/'koch', his lust for money, power, and approval from 'Koch' was put above any moral or civic principals.

Because that's ALL Joe does, is remind us that he used to be a Congressman.

Christ, his show would be better suited at Fake News, I swear.

I'll tell you, his takedown is coming. I am hoping for Joe to crash and burn as a media personality...I just think it's going to happen. They guy is too full of himself for him not to be brought down...they all do...

18. Walker's going to be on Meet the Press Sunday
This will no doubt be a big topic in that discussion, unless he backs out at the last minute, which, if he was smart, he would do. I don't think his ego will let him though, he's going to march right up there and blame everyone but himself for this mess.
