I'm not seeing the Teabaggers organizing to protest this weekend
I have been monitoring the net for the last couple of days and I'm not seeing any of the Teabaggers organizing to attend any protest this weekend. Last week they were all over the place talking about how they were going to show liberals who was boss but this week, nothing.

Did so called "standing up for freedom", completely shoot its wad last weekend?

7. Not an issue
Just askin' - why do otherwise seemingly intelligent folks equate NASCAR with a)The Olde South b)stereotypical "rednecks" or hillbillies c) kneekerk conservatisim, or stupidity of any sort?

From what I've seen, it takes a good deal of time, effort, and handholding to round up any significant number of teabaggers, and it does'nt work all the time even with that effort. Unlike race fans, they don't seem to get out much...

8. The Tea Party in my town on the west coast is chuck full of NASCAR fans
Not hardly 'The Olde South' or hillbillie country, but certainly a seething hotbed of angry conservative nuts that were easily drawn into the Teabag movement, so yes, kneejerk conservatism does apply, by and large. Jeff Gordan hailed from our area, and his parents still live down the road, so we have a built in local rivalry going that sells a lot of beer; many locals love him, and the rest despise him. Lots of 'drink beer, talk stupid, and holler' associated with that debate.

I enjoy NASCAR, and I watch the races, but I don't buy into the patriotism hype that is sold, part and parcel, at every race. That, and the veiled Christian values thing tossed at me. I'm just an old school mechanic that wants to watch a good tight race; the hell with the rest of the trappings.

What is happening with the style of NASCAR racing this year? Is this buddy system of paired racers going to continue through the entire season, or was that just an anomaly of Daytona Beach? I thought it sucked.

11. Patriotisim is cheap spectacle
And race promotion is all about spectacle. Our armed forces recruit extensively among race fans, and it's a good synergy for a highly mechanized military. Race teams like ex-military, along with farm kids and local racer's kids - the learning curve is much shorter for them.
As far as cheap spectacle - what makes it cheap is the dedicated military units - color guards, flag presentation squads, and the like - and a great crowd and timing (during Air Guard drill time) for fly-by's. A good local marching band is a lot cheaper than "Up with People", and much less annoying. (I had the misfortune of seeing UWP at NHMS, and they were dreadful....)

I liked Daytona this year, personally - but, then, I like the Wood Brothers a lot. I think the double hookup is a creature of Daytona's new pavement, and will be less of a factor in the future. I really like that Bobby Labonte got a good finish for (my homie) Frankie Stoddard's shoestring startup team.

14. The Daytona thing was because of the way they resurfaced that track
It sort of couples the cars together and allows them to go faster. :scared:

(Hubby is a NASCAR fan and raced online for years. He explained it to me last weekend.)

10. Because
Because NASCAR is popular in "The Olde South", especially among "stereotypical 'rednecks' or hillbillies" who tend towards "kneekerk conservatisim, or stupidity of any sort".

As with all stereotypes, that doesn't mean all NASCAR fans fall into that category. Just like not all Football fans are male.

3. Me too,

I think these odds really scared them

70,000 vs 3,000 (yes, yes I am using OFFICIAL numbers)

Real numbers

100,000 vs 300

I think that took the wind off

Also there were some that showed up in Atlanta, and again they were outnumbered.

There most be some cognitive dissonance at work regarding being the majority at this point.

Still WATCH OUT for Agents Provocateurs... that was suggested by Williams. Two major sites (freedomworks and Michelle Malkin's blog) and a few you tube vids.

9. My son went to one solidarity rally where 6 Teabaggers showed up
He sent me a cellphone pic of them standing around their old pickup truck looking confused.

17. No doubt, the rest of their Teabagger cohorts were safely ensconced down at the Dunkin Donut joint
Jingling change in their pockets and wondering about Plan B. You just know it.

13. Maybe they're too busy trying to figure out how to help their out of work relatives
You know, cleaning out the spare room for their son the teacher and his family.

Freedom? Freedom to lose a job is about the story these days.

19. The Koch brothers kind of have their hands full right now
They don't really have time to charter the buses and send them around to the asylums this weekend to people their "rallies." So, as you can imagine, they need another tax cut.
