To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

A contact sent us this account with five photos attached. We relay to you the message as we received it:

I was in Tripoli, I left yesterday..I tried to take pictures and record videos before i left-not a lot and in good quality due to security reasons. I attached some city pictures from feb 22. although I couldn’t take their pictures, some protestors had taken over some streets- one had a rifle – close to the state TV. and there were barricades in some streets put by the youth. there were barricades around the state TV, the police+military men were in control. I’ll try to clean up and send pictures and videos from earlier. May Allah help Libya.The victory so soon inshaALLAH

They’re sending messages for us to go back to work. And they’re sending messages saying to take care of our children and not to let them participate in this war. Hold on a sec, just looking at them. But also there are some messages from concerned Libyans, people who are nationalist, but they don’t want to send messages in a…they want people to think positive about this. I hear for example, one of the messages says “Libya is one tribe and the name is Libya, and please send this to all the people you know.” This I think is more a message that is sent by people to each other, to comfort each other and not to go for Gaddafi’s idea of seperating east and west. Messages from the government, the general popular committee: “Please go back to work.” Arabic: The general popular committee asks all citizens in the public and private sector to go back to work and living their life normally from today.” So the government is asking people to go back to work, but as I told you I don’t think that will be possible in weeks. There’s so much destruction in the city.
