When I found out that Shawna Forde was sentenced to death it really got me thinking. As I was thinking I saw a story on Fox news about how the world was about to end because of a budget crisis. So as you'd expect that got me thinking even more. What if...and I'm just thinking aloud here...we use Shawna Forde and the death penalty to fix the budget crisis? Brilliant right? Here is what we do...and I'm sure anyone that has seen the movie Gladiator already has an idea of what I have in mind. Anyway, so what we do is we take all the inmates on death row...well lets just say the inmates on death row that have 24 hours left (we aren't barbaric after all)...and we set up the best sporting event of the year! We let these "people" fight it out to the death on live TV and the one "person" left standing gets to bypass the death penalty and spend the rest of their life locked up in a small cell for 23 hours a day! This event will be broadcast live on any national network that submits the highest bid. With commercials for the super bowl running at 2.6 million dollars for every 30 seconds this is sure to outperform that by huge margins. So we can expect network bids to be in the many billions of dollars. With the amount of death row inmates we currently have we could probably do this every month, but in my personal opinion doing it that often might not be such a good idea. Because after a few months people will get bored of seeing "people" slaughtered live on national television. So it would probably be best to make this an annual event instead. Doritos will surely be on board. Aside from all the money we would make off the broadcasting rights just imagine how much money would be made off the merchandise! The dvd sales, the sweatshirts, the posters, the official memorabilia! And of course lets not forget the exclusive and explosive pay per view events! Seriously, think about this. This not only has the potential of fixing our budget crisis but it also has the potential of providing all of us with huge entertainment value. We can take the many billions of dollars that this program would easily generate each and every year and use it for all kinds of domestic programs. Such vital programs as offering heating assistance to low income families during one of the coldest winters in decades. A program I am told we currently can't afford.
